Two 16x PCI express Slots, four DDR2-800 Slots up to 8 GB memory, six S-ATA II ports, ten USB 2.0 ports, two 1 Gigabit LAN connectors and wonderful OC features is not my list of wishes for Christmas, but rather the excellent equipment of the new Foxconn C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H Socket AM2 motherboard. Without anticipating the result, this Socket AM2 board is a dream for overclocker, because this mainboard has as many OC options, that it would be possible to write dozens of OC guides. And overclocking an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ processor to 3000 MHz is really nice...

The flagship Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H motherboard is a prime example of what Foxconn can do. Based on the Intel 975X Express and ICH7R chipsets, the board supports all Socket 775 Intel CPUs from the Celeron D to the Pentium 4/D/XE, and of course Core 2 Duo. The 975X Express chipset operates with a 800/1066MHz Front Side Bus (FSB). It features 3GB/s SATA II RAID (0, 1, 5, 0+1) so you can hook up as many as four SATA hard drives like the Western Digital WD740 Raptor together for data redundancy in RAID 1, or the pure speed of RAID 0.

Due to the i975's predating the Core 2 Duo processor, there are lots of boards out there which don't support Intel's new processor. So a slew of updated boards have been arriving with Core 2 Duo support. Amongst these is Foxconn's 975X7AB, which replaces the 975X7AA. We take a look at what has changed.

My opinion is somewhat biased because I am an overclocker, first and foremost. The Foxconn 975X7AB-8EKRS2H is not an overclocker's motherboard... right now. I hinted at it in a couple of sections, with some BIOS work, this motherboard might take off. Currently, however, this motherboard should only be thought of as an excellent Intel 975X chipset offering if you're not into overclocking.

The motherboard that reigns at the top of Foxconn's list for Intel processors is the 975X7AB. The board offers all the bells and whistles of the 975X chipset for about hundred dollars cheaper than most and offers a lot of performance to boot. Well, it's time to see how well the 975X7AB stacks up against the rest.

Foxconn's upgraded Intel 975X Express motherboard now features Core 2 and DDR2-800 support. The 975X7AB-8EKRS2H has all the good things going for it as far as an enthusiast should be concerned about: price, performance and features, though setting up can be a tricky affair.

We mooted the idea of special signature boards bearing the Foxconn logo to the VGA product manager earlier in the year, wondering if they were going to go down that road, and the response was pretty much just wait and see. So wait and see we have, patiently twiddling pixels for months until Hon Hai Precision Industry's trade arm got some life and started shipping its first graphics boards.

The Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H is one of least expensive P965 Express motherboards out there. Onboard goodies include a PCI Express x1-based Gigabit network card and an Intel Azalia High Definition 7.1 channel audio codec. Upgrades are possible through a PCI Express x1, x4 and x16 slot, and three 32 bit PCI slots. You can install a maximum of 8GB of DDR2-800 memory into the system while running in a dual channel configuration, and the motherboard supports all Socket 775 processors, from the lowly Celeron D to the flagship Core 2 Extreme and can run with FSB's of 533, 800 and 1066 MHz.

Foxconn always has an entry-level solution, so it's no surprize that their P965 board is targeted to the mainstream market. However it does tout some overclocking features and as always, should be a rock solid performer. How does it compare to the popular Gigabyte solutions though?

There is no doubt that this is an excellent motherboard. Inside the relatively anonymous box you'll find a sleak looking motherboard filled with features. The full nTune support is great and something I would like to see from all motherboards (ASUS, you listening?). It is also nice to get all those angled SATA-cables. Last but not least the motherboard performs excellent easily matching the ASUS AM2 motherboard. However, at the same time I cannot help feeling that the motherboard lacks some of the sophistication you get from for example the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard. There's no color-coding of the various connectors, you get one(!) free fan-header and the floppy and GPU power connectors are being placed way off on the motherboard. You also don't really get anything extra with the motherboard as you do with most of ASUS motherboards.

All-in-all the Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H is a solid board for anyone looking to upgrade to what is now arguably the fastest platform for almost any task, provided you got the right CPU of course. With the low prices of the Pentium D, it would be a great complement for an entry level machine with great potential for cheap Core 2 Duo upgrading in the future. What?s more, despite this being a mainstream part, the board is bundled with software that?s actually useful in keeping your hardware up-to-date without sacrificing stability and all the overclocking features are available for getting more out of your machine.

On the one hand the board ticks all the boxes for features, presentation and bundle, but falls slightly short of the very best for both layout and overclocking. This doesn?t stop us from recommending the board to the majority of users, but those looking to extract the maximum possible performance from their low end X2 should certainly look elsewhere. Everyone else should include the C51XEM2AA 8EKRS2H on their short list if looking to invest in the AM2 platform today. Customers can purchase the Foxconn board from Aria.co.uk for £119 including VAT, which makes it one of the best priced 590-based solutions on the market.

Intel's latest chipset, the 975X, looks like it's a real gem thanks to ATi CrossFire support. The latest Foxconn motherboard to pass through the PCSTATS test labs is the 975X7AA-8EKRS2H, and it is a flagship motherboard for the Intel Pentium LGA775 processor platform. The Foxconn 975X7AA-8EKRS2H motherboard is powered by the Intel 975X Northbridge and Intel ICH7R Southbridge. It supports all Socket 775 processors that run on the 533/800/1066 MHz FSB; from Intel Celeron D right through to Pentium 4/D/XE...
