Now that we have gotten to the source and started working with the masterminds behind Heat-Pipe Direct Touch coolers, it is time to get serious. Our first review from Xigmatek was a low cost 92mm cooler that performed better than all of our low to mid-cost coolers, but left us a little underwhelmed when compared to 120mm coolers. As you can imagine, we have been looking forward to taking a crack at Xigmatek?s 120mm coolers to see how they compare against 120mm offerings from Noctua, Thermalright and the other CPU coolers tested this past year. Today is the day and I have a pair of coolers from Xigmatek that feature a 120mm fan.

Xigmatek are a relatively new company mostly getting a great reputation for their proficient cooling solutions. Lately however Xigmatek has made a great foray into the power supply sector with units having extreme specifications and aggressive prices. Today we will take a look at their most powerful PSU, the NRP-HC1501 1500W.

The Xigmatek HDT-S1284EE heatsink is an extension of the Achilles model, built on the same great frame but with a new fan that offers identical performance and just about the same noise values. At full tilt the HDT-1284EE barely purrs at 44.2dBA, while the Achilles hums away at 42.7dBA. The Xigmatek HDT-S1284EE heatsink features an "exposed heatpipe base" that stacks up very well in the competitive world of AMD and Intel processor cooling.

With a trio of heatpipe direct touch CPU cooler reviews under our belts, I can definitively say that the tech is quickly catching on and spreading like wildfire. I am standing strong behind my statement from the last review of a H.D.T. cooler that I think this is the direction most CPU heatsinks will go in the future; much like the way nearly all CPU coolers use heatpipes nowadays. Today we are going to take a look at the HDT-SD964 from XIGMATEK. Unlike all of the Heatpipe Direct Touch (H.D.T.) coolers we have looked at thus far, this cooler does not use a 120mm fan. The HDT-SD964 uses a 92mm fan and is a little shorter than the others. This will allow the cooler to be placed in smaller enclosures like 4U server chassis' and equal sized media center cases.

The HDT-S1283 from Ximatek may not have a name that rolls off the tongue with ease, but it is light, easy to install, easy on the wallet, and it has a spoiler; that has to at least add 1 or 2 horsepower. Aside from the possible clearance issue with some large chipset coolers I didn't find anything that I didn't really like about the HDT-S1283...

Like many of Xigmatek' coolers, the Achilles S1284 heatsink has an aluminum base with four wide copper heat pipes inset. Heat is conducted directly from the core of the K8 AMD or LGA775 Intel processor to the 8mm diameter heatpipes, the heatpipes then disperse that heat to a 115mm tall tower of aluminum fins above.

The Xigmatek Achilles S1284 heatsink has many improvements over the famous HDT-S1283 cooler. There are now four U-shaped heatpipes, and they are nickel-plated. The fan design is new and unique as well, with its white LEDs that light up the fan's smoke frame and orange blades.

In our test the Battle-Axe proved to be a very powerful graphic card cooler, but it doesn't come without a long list of down sides. First of all it's huge. This isn't a problem if the user only has one graphic card and doesn't even plan to get any other cards. Anyway it just leaves a feeling of "couldn't have been made any smaller".

Xigmatek has really made a name for themselves over the past year thanks to the Heat-pipe Direct Touch technology that they have embraced. When Benchmark Reviews originally reviewed the HDT-S1283 cooler we were absolutely astonished by the incredible results. Once again, we are the very first to test the newest hardware, and you'll be impressed to know that this product delivers the performance needed by overclockers while fulfilling the enthusiasts wish list for attractive features. Benchmark Reviews introduces the Xigmatek Achilles S1284 HDT CPU Cooler CAC-SXHH4-U02 and tests the performance against the top competitors.
