Cooler Master is a very reliable source of computer products, and the 690 case is no different. With minimalistic black styling, a mesh shell, and chrome outlines, the 690 is one of the most visually appealing cases I have ever seen. Combined with an arsenal of tool-less features, the 690 case is a top-notch case. However, due to a lower level cooling performance, the 690 does not shine as bright as the more efficiently cooled cases.

The Cooler Master CM 690 is a nice looking case, there's no doubt in my mind about that, and the fact that its available for around fifty quid in the UK only sweetens the deal. On top of that, the cooling performance is pretty admirable. Does the case have problems? Sure it does, but nothing is perfect. The plentiful ventilation grilles mean that the case can get pretty noisy, especially if you have it on your desk right next to you monitor. That's only going to get worse the more fans you put in the case too, though it can also be solved pretty easily by putting the case in a desk alcove.

Today computer cases are more than the beige box of the past. No longer the drab box sitting on the desktop they have been transformed. People now have a choice of colours as well as styles and can expand the case to suit their needs. The form has been addressed but what about function? With some cases function has taken a back seat to form. Today's review focuses on one case where it appears that function was foremost in the designers mind but without loosing site of form. Let's take a look at Cooler Master's CM 690 to see how well form and function can work together.

Cooler Master recently brought the CM 690 to the market which offers some great features that a lot of higher end cases don't have. The CM 690 can take up to seven 120mm case fans, and offers a nice sleek looking exterior.

Arriving at my front door in a plain brown box, this mystery item puzzled me. Not knowing if I should open it up or call Home Land Security, I took the chance and risked life and limb to find out what was lurking inside. Lo and behold, it was the CM690 SLI-ready enclosure from Cooler Master. This sleek, black enclosure sports a black mesh front and top with chrome dividers, tool-less installation, internal cable management system, and enough fan openings to create your own hovercraft. A bunch of other neat, little options are included, but I will mention those in the review - no need to spoil things now.

Starting out in life as a manufacturer of cooling devices, Cooler Master has been around for over a decade. I can still recall seeing a lot of coolers with the company logo coming out as OEM coolers for many computer systems, but these folks have grown a bit since then. While thermal devices are still in their blood, they have expanded and are becoming well known for their power supplies and enclosures. Today's article will take a look at one of their recent entries into the mid-tower market, the CM690. It takes some of their tried and true features and mixes it with a liberal dose of new goodies and adds in a decent price tag to boot.

Sometimes CoolerMaster has a hit, and sometimes they have a miss, like any company. The CM690 however is most definitely a hit. They managed to somehow fit everything from a full sized tower into a mid, and not sacrifice anything. Not only are you able to fit 2 8800GTX cards in this, the placement of the fans and the case venting all around helps keep the temperature down. There's even room for a few more fans on the side, front, and even the top if you feel this case isn't staying cool enough.

Never waiting a single moment to cool their heels, CoolerMaster has unleashed a brand new monster of a mid tower. Their latest offering, the CM 690, is a veritable smorgasbord of features that many of the more expensive, higher end full/server towers lack. Will the CM 690 be able to withstand the heat that only HardwareLogic can deliver? There's only one way to find out!
