Naturally, Cooler Master is a company focused on cooling performance in their products. Last October I reviewed their most recent budget case, the CM690, which had all of the right features for the overclocker in all of us with expandability for many fans. Today, we're going to have a look at their latest high-end case, the Cosmos 1000. This case, however, has a slightly different focus than most CM products: silence. Priced at nearly $200 USD, it's sure to be a crowd-pleaser, but can Cooler Master keep true to their name while dampening noise?

Leveraging on their success with the CM690, CoolerMaster introduces a new chassis aimed at enthusiasts who expect nothing less than the extraordinary. Stepping up to the plate is the CoolerMaster Cosmos which makes its entrance into an already burgeoning enclosure industry. It is an industry where manufacturers strive to separate themselves from the next by offering new features and unique innovations to entice the unwary enthusiast into a purchase. With the introduction of the Cosmos, CoolerMaster hopes to redefine what it means to own an enthusiast level enclosure.

Computer enthusiasts are a lot like automobile owners: we all want something different than everyone else while expressing ourselves at the same time. With so many options to choose from, both in the auto industry and the computer industry, it isn't very difficult to find your taste. Just last week I reviewed the Zalman Z-Machine GT1000 Black Mid-Tower ATX Gaming Case, which could easily share relation to the exotic sports cars we can't afford. It was a very nice case, to be sure, but at the end of the day a sports car only has one purpose. Today we take the Cooler Master Cosmos RC-1000 Midtower ATX Case for a test drive, and right away I can tell this will be the Range Rover of computer cases.

The Cosmos 1000 is a really easy case to work with as it has many ergonomic aspects to it that help alleviate stress during a system build. Being tool-less in its design means that 98% of the installation will not require any additional tools, but installation of the motherboard and its cooling apparatus still needs an old school screwdriver to get the job done. Essentially though the case is pretty tool-less and that's always a big plus. Push button operated drive bays and parts that easily pop on and off add even more appeal to the Cosmos 1000 during the installation process. This case is also a looker that will catch the eye of house guests or friends and will make them green with envy.

For most of you who have any experience building enthusiast systems the name "Cooler Master" is known. Whether you are looking for cooling for the processor, power supplies or even enclosures, this company has been working with hobbyists for quite some time. Today's piece will cover a new style of enclosure that is becoming popular very quickly; that being a case which cools well and still maintains a high level of silence. The COSMOS 1000 is Cooler Master's response to this new desired product and we plan on seeing if it can deliver both qualities it claims.

Cosmos, the word conjures thoughts of distant galaxies, black holes, super novas and billions and billion of stars and planets all accompanied by the comforting drone of Carl Sagan's monotone voice. The Cosmos we're talking about today is a bit more down to earth, but impressive in its own right. The Cosmos 1000 is the latest in Cooler Master's Premium case line and we were fortunate enough to receive one of the first samples. This is Cooler Master's new bad boy for 2007 and has already managed to make it into Maximum PC's Dream Machine build. After spending the weekend with one, I can't fault their choice.

All in all, the Cosmos is a solidly built and attractive case which performs well enough in heat testing and runs near silently. This alone puts it high in the upper echelons of PC cases, but it's price point is a little awkward and shaving just a little off the cost would instantly make it a much more attractive case. Pound signs aside though, the Cosmos is a worthy addition to the Cooler Master range and a good buy for anyone who can spare the dough.

For years computer case manufacturers have walked a tight rope between decreasing fan noise and increasing air flow. With many cases still being cooled by a plethora of noisy fans, the on-going journey for a "silent PC" continues. CoolerMaster continues this quest with their latest PC case called the Cosmos. This mammoth steel case uses soundproofing materials and a "sound barrier" design to reduce vibrations and build a quiet environment for your rig.

Cooler Master's latest case is the Cosmos RC-1000, this case aims to offer very quiet operation and with its four big aluminum handles the design of this case definitely stands out from the crowd. The Cooler Master Cosmos case features a special airflow system, it has one intake fan one the bottom and uses three outtake fans. The firm says this creates a negative pressure effect which will draw in more cool outdoor air into the interior to keep all your components cool. Besides airflow Cooler Master also thought about soundproofing, cable management and tool-free design. In the next few pages I will discuss all of these aspects and see if it works as advertised.

This is one of the most well made cases around and is designed to reduce noise in your room and keep your components cool at the same time. If you thought the Cooler Master Stacker series of PC cases were nice looking, wait to you check out the new Cooler Master COSMOS. As soon as you pop the side panels off you notice a large black plastic VGA duct that helps blow cool air over your video card or cards. The duct even has an aluminum plate on it that says Cooler Master. This entire case is set up with one goal in mind, to keep your rig cool.

It is hard to review a computer case and only find one thing about it you did not like, but that is exactly what happened to use when we reviewed the new Cooler Master Cosmos 1000. You will have to read the review to find out what the one dislike was.

We were the first to break the news from CeBIT of Cooler Master's forthcoming steel-based Cosmos chassis and now we have the first European review. But just how much of the 'concept' made it to production?
