Inspired by race cars (per Coolermaster's press release) this newest incarnation of the Cosmos is designated by it's S moniker, or Sport edition. Perhaps they mean sport racing with Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, as the sleek and defined look of the Cosmos S sure enough wouldn't mix well with the drunken crowds and painted up racing billboads of Nascar. Regardless, the polished and aggressive new face is exciting in itself, and we out to see how this new thoroughbred competes with it's more modest and silent sibling, the Cosmos 1000 which we reviewed back in December.

We're writing to let you all know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate Cooler Master's innovative COSMOS S chassis. Like the original COSMOS, the new S variant has what appear to be bar-like handles along both sides of its top and bottom edges. And its general shape is reminiscent of the original COSMOS as well. The COSMOS S, however, has a new titanium and glossy black finish that really stands out and its inputs and ventilation scheme are all somewhat different. Head on over to the site and check it out...

The Cooler Master Cosmos S is the "sport" variant of the original Cosmos chassis. Coolermaster has taken various aspects of the Stacker series and fused them with the original Cosmos case. The door is gone and the plastic top has been redesigned to fit a triple radiator of your choice. The new Cosmos S is also made of Aluminum which makes it much lighter.

Cooler Master's Cosmos case made waves last year because of its incredibly silent design, awesome size, and excellent accoutrements. This year, Cooler Master altered the Cosmos design and released a new model: the Cosmos S. Whereas the Cosmos case was a silent beast, the Cosmos S is designed to keep things inside as cold as possible, sacrificing silence for performance. After salivating upon seeing this case in Cooler Master's booth at CES, we had to get our hands on it. ThinkComputers blasts off to explore the unknown regions of this expansive case.

It did not take Coolermaster long to update their high end chassis, the Cosmos S is based on the Cosmos, but made from aluminum, more cooling options, comes with a massive 200mm fan and has a very unique I/O panel. We compare this S(port) version to the original to see how it stacks up.

Back in August we looked at the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000, which was a very well designed EATX chassis that ultimately received our Editor's Choice Award for its excellent build quality, stylish design, and its feature-set. Just a few days ago, however, Cooler Master had unleashed the Cosmos S chassis. The Cosmos S RC-1100 is based upon the Cosmos design, but features a new racing theme, touch-sensitive panel, and various other improvements. The RC-1100 is meant to be the "Sports" version of the Cosmos 1000. In this review, we're looking at the Cooler Master Cosmos S as we load it up with an Intel 5400 EATX server motherboard and other high-end server hardware to see how this case really performs.

Cooler Master really included many new features that I would expect to become a standard with high end computer cases, like the very cool touch sensor that replaced the standard power button. When building a high end computer system many user's focus on the internal components and not on the case, but with the Cosmos S arriving in March, the case should become a high priority.

The side panels of the Cooler Master Cosmos S are easy to remove and require no tools. To remove either side panel all you need to do is press an eject button on the back of the case. The panels pop off the sides and are easy to remove. Inside the case the drive bays are tool less as well. The same locking rails are used in the Cooler Master Cosmos S that owners of the Cosmos are familiar with.

The Cooler Master Cosmos S is an attractive and sleek case that looks even better than the standard Cosmos, holding its own in the higher end of the market when it comes to look. If the Antec P182 is just a little too plain for your tastes then the Cosmos S is an acceptable compromise between that and a Cooler Master Stacker 830 Custom.
