The GeForce 7900 GTX is really just an optimized version of the GeForce 7800 GTX. It's faster and yet cooler than the GeForce 7800 GTX. But other than that, it doesn't come with any feature that its predecessor didn't already have. Of course, thanks to its use of the 90nm process technology and the trimming of several million transistors, it's also smaller and cheaper to make. But because this is a premium product, we doubt you will actually see the savings! Even though it is cooler, the GeForce 7900 GTX still runs pretty hot under heavy load, but the fan's noise level is surprisingly quiet. It's actually as quiet as the fan used in the GeForce 7800 GTX and quieter than the fan used in the new GeForce 7900 GT!

The headline figure is that NVIDIA has finally followed ATI and moved to a 90 nanometre manufacturing process. This brings a whole string of benefits. Firstly, the actual physical size of the GPU is reduced. It's roughly half the physical size, so it costs less for NVIDIA to produce it and therefore it can make the card cheaper to produce than the viciously expensive 7800 GTX 512MB...
