The combination of using standard 512MB configuration with a 65nm GPU and single slot cooling has allowed nVidia to lower the production costs of the 8800GT which should be selling between US$250-$300. Overall, we were very satisfied by 8800GT performance which proved to be faster than 2900XT and GeForce 8800GTS, while keeping on pair with 8800GTX. We know that nVidia is planning to make more changes to its high-end lineup before years end, but if you are in market for a new card today, 8800GT comes as a no brainer.

We had no doubt that NVIDIA was going to bring something to the party to battle the HD 2900 PRO but we didn't think it was going to be a new card. We thought maybe a few tweaks here and there in the drivers would be done but instead they decide to drop the bombshell that is the 8800GT. The 8800GT is here and we're going to see stock at the beginning of next week all around the world, which is more than we can say for the HD 2900 PRO which impressed us a great deal.
