ASUS has given us everything enthusiasts ask for in a motherboard and then multiplied that by pixie dust and a kitchen sink factor with the Asus P5E3 Premium motherboard. Sure, other motherboards have dual gigabit lan ports, but how many have dual eSATA? Or dual firewire? In addition to a dual antenna wireless-N integrated network adapter?

X48 is new, but there are many boards already begging for your dollars. We are taking a look at the most robust of them all, the P5E3 Premium, which includes built-in WiFi, a great board design and fantastic overclocking abilities. It would almost be a perfect board if it weren't for the $375 price tag.

As a true super power of the motherboard industry, we can always count on ASUS for a little shock and awe whenever a new chipset rolls out, filled to bursting with features and details not seen among its peers. Running the gauntlet from low-end boards that fill out the major consumer market to beastly monstrosities with endless bundles and gargantuan overclocking ability, ASUS can seemingly release new and innovative boards at will.

The upcoming Intel X48 chipset has been a poorly kept secret, but then again there has been little to be secretive or excited about. This is because the X48 is nothing more than a slightly updated version of the existing X38 chipset, which is a solid offering that nevertheless is not a whole lot better than the less pricey P35. So why not, let's blame Intel for making great mainstream chipsets that perform like its cream of the crop.
