The X300 notebook has an Intel Core Duo SL7100 (1.2GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB) CPU. The monitor is a 13.3" WXGA+ TFT (LED backlight). There is a 3x3 UltraConnect II which is a connectivity suite offering wireless LAN, UWB (UltraWide Band), Bluetooth and numerous wireless WAN choices including a system that utilizes native GPS functionality that is built into the X300. The hard drive is unique in that it is a solid state drive (SSD) 64GB in size. What this means is that the hard drive is not a rotating disk in the traditional sense, but rather comprises of several chips with addressable memory arrayed in a specific format to prolong the usability of the SSD drive.

Lenovo has released its Macbook Air "killer," the svelte and feature laden ThinkPad X300. While Apple had to make a number of compromises on the Air to get it down to its remarkable size, Lenovo took the opposite approach and have crammed as many features as possible - including an optical drive - into the X300. It's an expensive notebook because, unlike the Air, it comes with a solid-state 64GB hard drive standard. As of the time of this review, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 is priced from $3000 USD.

We're writing to let you all know that we have just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate the features and performance of Lenovo's sleek ThinkPad X300 ultra portable notebook. According to Lenovo, the ThinkPad X300 was designed to be the most efficient notebook the company has ever offered, with claims of a 25% reduction in power consumption in comparison to previous X-Series models. To achieve this, Lenovo attempted a balancing act of sorts, equipping the X300 with a low power Core 2 Duo CPU, a Solid-State Drive and an LED backlit monitor. Lenovo faced a great challenge when designing the ThinkPad X300. It had to make things really small without losing key capabilities, such as performance, battery life, quality, reliability and functionality. With thanks to Intel's ever-shrinking Centrino platform Lenovo has created a laptop that is amazingly thin and light, but still looks great, is built like a tank, and offers plenty of configuration options. As far as we're concerned the ThinkPad X300 is the best ultra-portable laptop you can currently buy.
