Contracting BenQ as the OEM to supply DVD writers was the first step in the right direction for HP's latest dvd640e DVD writer with LightScribe technology. We were impressed by the HP drive just as much as we were by the BenQ DW1625 when we reviewed it sometime earlier this year. Important qualities such as fast seek time, good media compatibility and sound write quality were all present, which means to say the dvd640e is just as good a product for your optical storage needs as similarly classed writers from other respectable brands. It's quite unfortunate that the drive could only muster a maximum DVD read speed of 12x instead of the rated 16x transfer rate...
