New Firmware Update For 2nd-gen HD-DVD Players
Toshiba released a new firmware update for it's second generation HD-DVD players.
The new firmware (v1.5) update addresses some problems Toshiba has identified with HDMI/DVI connectivity and disc playback. Specifically, it resolves the issue where the output resolution of the player remained fixed at 480i when it was connected to an HDTV or HD Monitor using a HDMI to DVI adaptor cable or a HDMI to DVI adaptor.
The firmware can be installed to the Toshiba HD DVD Player models HD-XA2, HD-A20, HD-A2, HD-A2W, and HD-D2.
Owners of a Tosiba HD DVD player with a broadband internet service may obtain the firmware update over the internet using the Ethernet port on the back of the HD DVD Player. Instructions for configuring the Ethernet port and downloading the firmware update can be found in the owner΄s manual of the HD DVD Player.
Alternatively, purchasers of the HD DVD player may contact Toshiba Customer Solutions and request that a firmware update disc be sent by mail.
