Pioneer and NEC to Showcase Next-gen DVD Drives in December
Pioneer and NEC will respectively showcase their Blu-ray Disc (BD) and HD-DVD burners and players at the annual IT Month fair beginning in December in Taipei.
Digitimes.com reports that Pioneer BD burners to be exhibited do not have content protection due to a delay in licensing of the anti-piracy advanced access content system, Pioneer High Fidelity Taiwan indicated. The licensing is expected to be completed early 2006, followed by volume production of BD burners equipped with CCAS.
The HD-DVD players to be shown will have playback functions only with volume production to kick off in December, NEC Taiwan pointed out. The timing of the launch of HD-DVD burners will hinge on market conditions and the strategy adopted by the HD-DVD group, the company added.
