ASUS shows with the P7P55D-E Premium its first mainboard that features USB 3.0 as well as 6 GB/s SATA. Furthermore they seem to litterally wait for extreme overclockers to set new world records due to the massive 32 phases power design.

Windows 7 is upon us, and with the launch of Microsoft's self-proclaimed "best operating system" comes a slew of new desktop machines, notebooks, and netbooks looking to take advantage of its added stability and features. One of the companies that is looking to serve up a number of new Win7-based rigs is Asus, and without a doubt they have assembled an interesting and compelling offering in their G51J-A1 notebook. Hitting the sweet spot between the average-sized 15" machine and the full-on desktop replacement, the refreshed G51 maintains the 15" form factor yet packs enough horsepower, with it's Core i7 mobile CPU and GeForce GTX 260M GPU under the hood, to plow through even the latest game titles.

"ASUS has always been at the forefront when it comes to new technologies. Lynnfield is no exception. At Computex we were lucky enough to see just how well this new technology would work and from there the birth of the new Lynnfield processor and P55 chipset has already caused a stir in the hardware community. On show for you today we have the P7P55D Deluxe board aimed at the mainstream segment. Hitting the shelves at $219.99 USD over at Newegg, Nehalem architecture now becomes more affordable and with plenty of style to boot."

?As the price of home networking equipment falls, manufacturers are looking to include features which separate their product from the rest of the pack. Many routers include at least one USB port these days because of this. This USB port is generally used for either a printer or some kind of storage device, such as an external hard drive or flash drive. The ASUS RT-N13U is one such device. It unifies 802.11n wireless with a 10/100 switch and a lone USB port, which ASUS thinks your all-in-one printer would love. ThinkComputers reviews the ASUS RT-N13U wireless router"

For the target market of the AMD Socket AM3 CPU purchaser the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO doesn?t get much better than this as the board looks good, performs great and has the features you would want from a motherboard with integrated graphics. The price point on the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO is $99.99 on Newegg, making it competitive with the other 785 boards out there. You get the ASUS branding which is always worth something as they put a lot of quality parts and workmanship into their boards, and you get the features from ASUS including Turbo Key, EPU, Express Gate and more. Overall, this is a very good board for this platform from the folks at ASUS.

"With the recent arrival of the new ATI Radeon HD 5 series graphics cards causing a great deal of interest, the previous best performing single GPU from ATI ? the 4890 ? has been left by the way side a little. Although, on the whole, the ATI DX11 GPU launches have been a great success for ATI, many users will still be sticking to the 4 series, if not older, cards and as ATI seeks to monopolise the DirectX11 Market with nVidia?s Fermi Technology lagging far behind, it?s definitely a good time to be investing in a 4890 or other 4 series GPU. To further the lure of the 4890, ASUS have been quick to beef up the card with a unique cooler allowing for increases to both the memory and core frequencies. Being part of the ?Formula? series is essentially equivalent to Sapphire?s Vapor-X or XFX?s XXX Edition cards whereby the stock 4890 is overclocked and tweaked to ultimately create a better, more unique card. Let?s take a look."

"Today I have the Eee 1101HA Seashell netbook on my desk to put through its paces. I still wonder where exactly ASUS came up with the Seashell name for the little rig; it has nothing that reminds me of the ocean. You can?t even hear the ocean if you hold it up to your ear. Still, the Eee 1101HA is a very nice notebook in the new and larger 11.6-inch form factor, offering 99% of the portability of the average netbook with more screen space and a larger keyboard. I for one would be glad to trade a smidgen less portability for more comfort when working on the machine. Read on for all the details."

Asus anticipates selling nearly half a million P55 motherboards by the end of the year. If this is the case, it will mean that P55 products alone will have accounted for 10% of the annual motherboard shipments for the Taiwanese manufacturer. In other words, there is quite a bit on the line for both Asus and its competitors. In an effort to meet the diverse demand expected for P55 products, Asus released a total of nine P55-based motherboards on the platform's launch day, ranging in price from $135 for the basic P7P55D LE to ~$250 for the Maximus III Formula and P7P55 WS SuperComputer. The P7P55D series sits at the center of Asus' P55 line-up, and the $220 P7P55D Deluxe we are reviewing today is meant to be your no-nonsense choice if you are looking for an integral P55 solution. Then the obvious question has to be what exactly makes this motherboard special?

"Back again with a new notebook and this time we are checking out the ASUS G51VX gaming notebook. It is a very nice change of pace to see a full on gaming notebook sitting on my desk rather than another netbook. ASUS is certainly more known for its netbooks than anything else, but the company knows how to build a nice gaming notebook, too. As long as a gaming notebook can be carried to and from the LAN party without giving you a hernia, gamers are usually OK with the size of the machine. You have to make compromises with any gaming notebook; they are expensive, loud and lack power compared to gaming desktops. However, for certain users the gaming notebook is the way to go. If you are that type of user, the ASUS G51VX I am checking our today may be exactly what you need."

Whenever a GPU manufacturer releases a new architecture, as AMD has done with the Radeon HD 5770 this week, the first bunch of cards all tends to be the same. Often a case of placing a particular partner's sticker on the fan, differentiation is made with respect to price, bundle and availability. As you would expect, ASUS has released a Radeon HD 5770 1,024MB GPU that looks just the same as any other. The appearance belies the fact that, unlike others, it ships with some nifty performance-enhancing technology. Known as the EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5, the card boasts Voltage Tweak technology, enabling the end-user to increase GPU voltage to stabilise higher clock-speeds. We take one for a mini-test and evaluate if it's manifestly better than a regular HD 5770.

"A netbook makes a fine travel notebook to check up on e-mail, find night life destinations on Google maps, and tap out a few quick journal entries, but for heavy lifting, Intel's Atom is a garden trowel where a backhoe is needed. Yet for anyone who needs a little more, there's an awfully intimidating price gap to leap to get to a full-fledged Intel Core 2 Duo machine, and when you get to the other side, the weight might have you wishing for your Atom back. A quickly growing crop of machines using Intel's CULV processors have sprouted up to fill that gap, offering power and portability somewhere in between netbook and notebook. We tried out Asus' freshman offering in the field, the aluminum-skinned UL30A."

It used to be that if you wanted to get any serious PC gaming done that you needed to have a desktop computer. Later on, it became more viable to consider a gaming laptop instead, but these used to break the bank compared to desktops with equivalent specs and features. Well, the gap between the gaming desktop and the gaming notebook is shrinking faster than ever, both in terms of horsepower and price.

"The introduction of the new LGA1156 platform and Lynnfield CPUs inevitably brought with them a wave of new motherboards; this time it?s the P55 PCH (Platform Controller Hub) that the boards are built around with the P57 to come. ASUS are always on the ball when it comes to new releases and this is no exception with the P7P55D range including a number of different boards from the basic layout right up to the more expensive Premium and Pro editions. The Deluxe board, which we are looking at specifically today, can be considered a fairly typical ASUS motherboard with a Deluxe version in most series including the P45 and P6T ranges.

"Today, Asus has claimed that is has perfected the Radeon HD 4890 and the RV790 GPU, with a custom-designed videocard that it calls the EAH4890 TOP. The EAH4890 TOP has everything you'd expect from a reference Radeon HD 4890: the GPU and shaders are clocked at 850MHz and accompanied by 1GB of GDDR5 memory that runs at an effective speed of 3.9GHz (975MHz quad-pumped). Where the Asus EAH4890 TOP differs is in its construction. Asus has made dramatic changes from AMD's reference Radeon HD 4890, with a re-designed PCB, new power management, an improved heatsink, and more powerful air cooling. The result is a videocard that holds a lot of promise for some extreme overclocking and tweaking."

While building our NVIDIA Ion powered Mini-ITX computer system we found that the fan used to cool the Intel Atom 330 processor and Nvidia Ion chipset was louder than what we expected from our prototype ASUS AT3N7A-I motherboard. ASUS said they agreed with the feedback and sent us a new fan that is being used on the retail models. Read on to see how loud the new one is! "The 40mm fan on the ASUS AT3N7A-I Mini-ITX motherboard is made by EverFlow, runs at ~6400RPM and can be annoyingly loud if you don't like fan noise. ASUS promised us the new fan would be quieter since it would spin slower, but it would have a negative impact on cooling since it didn't have the same airflow ratings. The new fan runs at ~4100 RPM instead of 6400 RPM, so let's see what that decrease in speed does to cooling and the noise level of the system..."
