In the midst of the trend towards quiet computing, ASUS' latest GeForce 7600 GT aims to quietly take over the mid-range segment. Join us as we take a look at the noiseless EN7600GT Silent and hear the difference between it and the other GeForce 7600 GT cards...

With a 2GHz Core Duo processor under the hood this is an ultra portable machine that isn't 'just for girls? despite the ice white looks. A good choice if your budget can't stretch to a Sony SZ1VP, though be sure to upgrade the RAM to 1GB...

If presentation is everything, ASUS? S6F (from £1699) would win hands-down. The S6F is as much a style statement as a laptop thanks to its compact form factor and chic looks. Gone is the familiar plastic, brushed aluminium and carbon fibre panels we're all accustomed to, replaced with real cow-hide leather (to the wrath of animal activists!)...

ASUS has put together an excellent package with the X1600XT Silent. You get totally silent operation, the features you expect from a video card today and the performance to play games like Oblivion and F.E.A.R. at medium resolutions and settings. The HTPC builder will love the card, as it'll fit in many small form factor PCs and has excellent video features...

ASUS's latest offering is a micro-ATX, Dolby and Viiv-certified motherboard. The Windows MCE-compatible N4L-VM DH (£110) is the first ASUS platform to feature support for Intel's Core Duo Mobile CPU, while the quiet cooling sustains operation without compromising performance - perfect for digital homes!

Asus has been around for 20-years, this success is most likely based on their steadfast loyalty to the PC-Enthusiast in all of us. Today we built a "budget" SLI rig running two Asus N6600GT Extremes based on the NV43 GPU which fully supports their 256MB GDDR3 memory compliment. Mated with an Asus P5ND2-SLI the system can handle any 3D-title and definitely put the fun back in performance...

I think it safe to say this is not a graphics card that is aimed purely at gamers, even though it comes with King Kong. I would say this card is more for your occasional gamer who has a virtually silent, possibly, multimedia pc. With that in mind this is an excellent card and does the job perfectly and can even play some taxing games at reasonable detail and resolution (so if you have just upgraded to pcie and can?t quite afford that 7800 but still need a fix of CSS then this card would be an ideal cheap temporary solution). There is one thing I would have liked to see included though, a temperature sensor on the core. It being a passively cooled card this would have been very useful in my opinion. despite this I recommend this card for a budget option...

Just like their motherboards and video cards, ASUS has an another sweet product on their hands. The performance of the Silent Square is in the ranks of better coolers out on the market. But not up there with the great coolers. But the performance that it showed while using only a 92mm is not bad at all, considering the 'best' coolers all use a 120. Another advantage that this cooler has over some of the others is that it can cool other components as well. In my testing, I set it up to blow over my hot passive chipset cooler...

The Asus EN7800GT TOP Silent/2DHTV/256M is fully SLI capable, so if you can run two of these silent assassins together. The only other question to bare in mind is what kind of power supply will you need to run a single EN7800GT Top? Well, let's dig down through the features and see...

The EAX1600XT Silent is built on a red PCB that is essentially identical to ATI's X1600XT. It's equipped with 256MB of GDDR3 video memory much like ATI's card. Additionally Asus has integrated a Rage Theater video decoder/encoder for basic SVIDEO/Composite VIVO functionality - which may be of use for those that want to capture video off of their old camcorders or hook up their console systems to play on a PC monitor. While our ATI X1600XT had dual DVI outputs the Asus only has VGA, DVI-I, and a connector for the VIVO breakout box. There's no dual-link DVI disappointingly...

ASUS videocards tend to have a reputation of being the "Mac daddy" of any series, and its prices reflect this position - about $715 CDN ($630 USD / £360 GBP) for this baby. Of course with Asus, consumers get a nice bundle of extras too. The hot Asus EAX1900XTX videocard is a shining example; it comes with a bunch of useful cables, software, and a full version of the game King Kong...
