In terms of raw performance the X1650 XT is a very worthy competitor to the 7600 GT and given its better texture filtering, its ability to process both HDR and AA simultaneously, and it's better connectivity options, I'd say it's the better choice of the two.

The Radeon X1950 XT 256MB is ideally suited to deliver great performance at 1280x1024 with maximum details and high levels of anti-aliasing. In addition, it's also capable of pushing out the frames frequently enough to enjoy games at 1600x1200 too. However, both the short and longer term benefits you'll get from GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB at 1600x1200 make it a better contender for running games at that resolution and, in the long term, it's probably worth investing that extra £50 into if you can afford it. At 1280x1024 though, Connect3D's card is probably the best bang for buck at the moment if you're looking for something to last you until mid-range DirectX 10 hardware from either ATI or Nvidia shows up in the next few months. However, if you're concerned about noise, you're going to have to spend a bit more on an aftermarket cooling solution.

There are a variety of ATI graphics cards, ranging from the very high end x1950XTXs to the more budget range x1600s. However, it is often hard to find a middle ground with such hardware. Usually the cards are too expensive or underpowered; but this is where Connect3D come in. Their x1950 Pro card promises top notch performance with a mid range price tag, can it pull it off? Lets see.

Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) have come on leaps and bounds in the last year as we saw the two graphics giants, ATI and Nvidia, battling it out for the performance crown. Unfortunately for the ATI fan boys Nvidia stormed ahead with the release of their 8800 range of cards. However, all is not lost as ATI's hard hitting x1950 series of cards comes with a brand new cooler, DDR4 and claims of excellent image quality. Today we have Connect3D's x1950XTX, read on to see what we thought.

This card has 256MB of memory running at 600MHz (1200MHz effective) which is strange as the memory modules are the same 1.4ns Samsung parts that are on the nVidia 7600 GT and 7900 GT cards. These are technically rated to 715MHz despite only running at 600MHz, in fact on the nVidia cards we squeezed speeds as high as 915MHz out of them when overclocked - it's always good to know that you've got some headroom to play with. The core is running at 575MHz, compared to the 625MHz of an XT...

If you are looking for a reference design card and aren't really into passive cooling, the Connect3D is hands down the best X800 GTO available. It has VIVO functionality and a PCI-e power connector - these are two important additions that almost no other X800 GTO's currently offer. It's also possible that some R423/R480 cores are bios moddable to 16 pipes, and if you are one of the lucky ones to manage this, the PCI-e power connector will no doubt be a great addition to this card. The £130 asking price makes this one of the buzz cards of the moment...

Well to put it quite bluntly I was impressed with this card and I have to say its worth the extra pence and cent that it costs above the X800xl series. Add to that the fact it can be purchased quite a bit cheaper than a 6800 ultra makes me laugh a bit and proves that ATI cards still offer the best bang for buck. Just look around at the prices of the Connect3d. X850XT compared to the 6800ultra and you will see what I mean. This card is truly a hot product and with out a doubt my card of the moment. An excellent performer with some extra grunt under the belt...

Well this card really was a revelation due to the fact it did not have any ram sinks and used an aluminium GPU cooler. Yet I was able to clock the card ram up slightly higher than the Sapphire with it ram sinks and cooper cooler. We all know that 80% of the GFX buying crowd will clock the card to try and get the most out of it and the Connect3d x800xl will fit the bill. I am not saying the Sapphire was not good as the x800xl series is a good bang for buck card, what I am saying though is if you are and overclocker at heart and will be ramping the clocks up this would be an ideal choice and highly recommended by us at Xtreme.
