Evesham Technology is one of the oldest PC manufacturers in the UK and has a reputation for both well-built products and good after-sales service. It may not be the cheapest source for a business PCs, but over the years many customers have returned to Evesham to renew their aging systems.

The Evesham Zieo N500-HD conforms to the Centrino Duo certification, and pleasingly is the first notebook we've seen to feature a Turbo Memory module - in this case a 1GB one. As a result there's been a fair amount of extra testing to do, since we've tested this system with Turbo Memory enabled and disabled to get an idea of how/if it performs. Later on I'll also be taking a look at whether it improves system boot-up speed, one of the mooted improvements it should provide.

As you may have guessed, the 8600 GTS in the Solar's name refers to the graphics card which it uses and also gives you a clue as to its projected market - gamers on a budget. This assertion is backed up by the inclusion of an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13GHz, 2MB cache, 1,066MHz FSB) CPU coupled with 2GB DDR2 RAM running at 667MHz - both midrange components. Altogether these components should be capable of playing any current games at 1,680 x 1,050 (the native resolution of the included monitor) and will be able to keep up with any games that come out within the next couple of years.

Invested in a swanky new HDTV display? Disappointed with DVD playback on it? Maybe its upscaling isn't up to scratch. Enter the 70 quid DVD1000 from Evesham, with its own upscaler and HDMI output.

Evesham Technology has always been a big player in the entry-level server market and its latest SilverEdge 300AH aims to deliver support for Intel's dual- and quad-core Xeon processors but at a price the small business can afford.

PVR capabilities are just one of the features of Evesham's iPlayer, and on paper its one impressive machine. Sporting a Freeview Digital Tuner, 80GB internal hard-drive, Ethernet port and HDMI output, the iPlayer is both PVR and self styled high-definition media hub all in one small unit.

Like a lot of PC system builders hard pressed by competitors who operate on a global scale, Evesham Technology has diversified into consumer electronics as a way of bringing in additional revenue. We're taking a look today at one of those CE products, a twin-tuner personal video recorder for Freeview digital terrestrial TV that's fitted with a 160GB hard disk and pitched at a VAT-inclusive £150.

Evesham Technology, the UK-based PC manufacturer, has added to its range of ultra-portable laptops with the Voyager C545, a fantastic-priced system which combines plenty of power and portability. The only ?downside? is that its design is a little bland, - especially compared to Dell and Sony?s latest offerings. Weighing a mere 2.2kg (338x247x36mm) and packed with the latest technology, the two-tone grey Voyager C545 may be the ideal solution for taking work and play on the move if you?re not bothered about a big-brand system.

The prices of LCD TVs has fallen dramatically in the last six months, with a number of big-name manufacturers offering their low-end 32-inch models for under £1,000. Even with that in mind, Evesham's HDMI-equipped V32EMRO-ZE3 is attractively priced at £749, which includes delivery and a standard 3-year on-site warranty. The spec. table also lists a decent number of inputs, making it a multi-purpose display...

AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors are not renowned for their good power consumption and heat output, meaning that they're not ideally suited for mobile use. However, Evesham has managed to cram AMD's fastest dual core behemoth, a GeForce Go 7800 GTX and a pair of 100GB hard drives running in RAID 0 in one of its Quest chassis'. This makes for an interesting combination, especially when the kind of hardware we're talking about is crammed into such a small space...

Intel has traditionally offered a wide range of 'white box' server solutions and one of its biggest fans has always been Evesham Technology. The latest SilverEDGE 300NH represents a slight departure from this
philosophy as although it uses Intel's entry level Server Board SE7230NH1-E, Evesham has opted for an Enlight SR5032 chassis instead of Intel's SC5295UP. The 300NH comes equipped with a Pentium D processor, which is proving to be a top choice for this type of application. It offers small businesses that are looking for their first server more than enough power for basic file and print sharing and email and web services but doesn't incur the premium commanded by dual Xeon servers...

With 1GB of DDR2 667MHz memory and a 100GB 7,200rpm SATA hard drive the base specs are very good indeed. Add to this an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics adapter with 256MB of memory and you get close to a desktop spec laptop. Besides the slower CPU and more modest memory complement, the
Voyager C550 is so far quite similar to the Acer in terms of specification and it does of course use the same Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG 802.11a/b/g wireless card as this is part of the new Centrino standard. Bluetooth 2.0 is also part of the wireless specification...

This is a great system for the money. It's plenty powerful enough to run Media Center well, whilst being fantastically quiet. It lacks audio and network connectivity, but more than makes up for it in size and chic. If you're happy with the compromises the size necessitates, you shouldn't hesitate to drop the cash on this baby...

The Evesham Mini PC Plus is the Intel powered alternative to the Mac mini. It looks good, but doesn't offer enough to be a Mac beater, at least not at its current price...
