Two 9800GTs beat a GeForce GTX280 which is pretty amazing considering the performance of that card. Palit 9800GT Super+ 1GB is available online today at a price of $170, meaning that two of them would cost you less than a GeForce GTX 280 which they would outperform and be a better value. Palit has released three versions of the 9800GT including the reference clocked one, this card which offers better cooling and 1GB of memory and the 9800GT Sonic card which has a higher clock speed. The addition of PhysX enabled software allows the card to improve frame rates up to 20% as it offloads the physics to the GPU from the graphics card. This is a serious Hot Product as in SLI mode you get one kick ass pair of VGA cards that can almost just plain wallop the GTX280 standard edition card.

Palit is one of the first AMD board partners to release a custom Radeon HD 4870 version. Their new HD 4870 Sonic Dual Edition comes with a completely revamped cooling assembly that features two fans to keep the card cool. Also included is a DisplayPort connector and a Turbo switch which lets you select the operating frequencies of the card. The mandatory "overclocked out of the box" is included as well.

If you've been holding off on an upgrade for a while, there's no reason to continue if a gaming addiction is pulling at your sleeve. The selection for mid-range cards right now is ideal, and anything you pick up will deliver good performance for the money. The best card for the buck right now might be the HD 4870, and we take Palit's version for a spin to find out why.

Into this vicious jungle of video card madness, nVidia releases the 9800GT. Priced around $175 by most nVidia partners, though the 9800GTs performance should be above that of the 9600GT and all mid-range cards from the previous generation, it will be a hard sell against the HD 4850. But our friends at Palit wisely released their version of the 9800GT at $130, precisely in the price range of those cards that it will easily and soundly trounce. So at that price point, econo-buyers can get a newly-released video card that should be in the upper mid-range/lower high-range GPU world. Will the Palit 9800GT be the answer to the poor man's graphics prayers? Read on to see!

The HD 4870 has been quite the performer from the word go, but it's in our blood that we have the need for even more power. This is where overclocking comes into play and today Palit has placed the HD 4870 under their Sonic naming scheme, which means we get a nice little out of the box overclock. Palit hasn't just bumped the clock speeds up, though, they've also decided to change it by removing the boring reference cooler that we've been seeing for so long and adding their own design. Before we check out the cooler and the clocks the new HD 4870 Sonic from Palit offers, we'll quickly take the time to have a look at the package to see if there's anything inside the box to get excited about.

Palit's card isn't available online as of yet, but as ATI's card just launched this past Tuesday, it should hit retail stores at a price of $549. At this price point it is the highest priced card for gaming enthusiasts but you get the performance of two HD4870s on a single card, making it the fastest single card on the market. When NVIDIA launched their GeForce GTX 280 card it was the fastest, but it wasn't so fast that two of the competition chips couldn't beat it. This has caused NVIDIA to drastically lower the prices of their GTX280 and GTX260 cards to reflect the performance and price you would expect. Competition is a good thing, as you get better performance, more features and lower prices because of it. This is a Gamers Gold card as it is the top of its class for a single GPU solution.

Now that the HD 4850 has been hanging around for a bit, we're beginning to see more and more companies jump on the aftermarket bandwagon. The latest company to do this is Palit, bringing the highly popular HD 4850 to the also highly popular Sonic line. The HD 4850 has had so much going for it from the word go; its aggressive pricing and excellent performance gave users everything they wanted. It wasn?t all rosy, though; while the use of a single slot cooler was handy, it caused the card to run extremely hot.

Underneath almost every 280 card sticker is the same card in the GTX280 family of cards, with differences being cosmetic in nature in almost every case. There are a few bold partners who make spec changes and such, but that is a limited number of cards being brought to market at best. My point is this; almost every GTX280 you see on the shelf was made with the same spec and same manufacturing procedures so who you buy from becomes a very valid concern in a sea of manufactures. Palit is the biggest NVIDIA and ATI partner with the positions and distribution levels to bring solid business to the game. The Palit GTX280 is another Gamer's Choice Gold as it features the fastest single chipset card in the world the NVIDIA GTX280 and Palit's card is priced at under $500.00, a winning price at this time point.

There is nothing to balk about with this release, even the price is not overtly overboard from an out of gate newcomer X2 series card as the 4870 X2 will even out price wise at about $500.00 US, and that's not too out of line for what the card offers and represents. Most cards lately from either ATI or NVIDIA have been overpriced, usually in the over $600.00 range and that really puts the card out of the reach of most people's budgets. $500.00 for the top of the line card when it hits the streets is reasonable in today's PC market where top of the line CPUs are $1200.00, motherboards $400.00 and 4GB ofDDR3 memory are $300.00 as these are the major components that make up your gaming computer. Palit and ATI together have a solid winning victory in the new Radeon HD 4870 X2 card, it a serious Editor's Choice product for anyone who is serious about their game.

If you want the absolute best when it comes to gaming graphics performance a pair of Radeon HD 4870 X2 cards are what you need. They are super fast graphics cards and at $549 each they aren't priced too high compared to where other cards have launched in the past few years. AMD has done a great job with these cards and they were able to take back the performance crown with the release of these cards. NVIDIA can no longer say they have the fastest graphics card and that has to hurt with NVISION just a couple weeks away...

AMD has gone too long without a real high-end graphics card to compete with the competition, but they're done with the pity, and prove it with the HD 4870 X2, which becomes the fastest graphics card the planet has ever seen. It may cost more than the competition, but its end performance easily negates that premium.

NVIDIA has just launched the new 9800 GT which is basically the old 8800 GT. So, they haven't really launched a new product, rather, a new name. The renaming of cards is becoming a bit of a pain in the ass, but really there isn't a whole lot we can do about it. The best thing we can do is help keep people educated so they don't upgrade from an 8800 GT to a 9800 GT or an 8800 GS to a 9600 GSO. The thing is, though, these new cards come with new pricing which tends to be lower than their original counterpart, which means that they become more competitive than ever and that's something we?re not going to complain about.

The real win is having a $300 card: NVIDIA made a lot of money with the 9800 GTX before the 4850 forced them to sell it for $200. Now that bracket belongs to ATI, who, for the first time in years, is dictating hardware costs, not following prices set by NVIDIA. We'll have to wait for board partners to add innovation. So yes, the card isn't perfect, but like they say, it's lonely at the top.

With so many options on the market right now, what makes the GTX 280 a good choice for anyone? The fact that it is the highest-performing card out there sure helps, but it's still not for everyone. To join this club, you better hope you have one massive resolution to push.
