The Viewsonic makes a real feature of its built-in speakers, which are quite evidently underneath the logo. Round the back you'll find DVI and D-Sub ports, along with an audio input for the speakers. There's no HDCP compliance listed for the DVI socket in the documentation, which will be a problem if you plan to watch HD DVD or Blu-ray on your PC.

We?re getting used to LCD prices tumbling faster than we can keep up with them. But even knowing that still doesn?t prepare you for the ViewSonic N4060w: a 40in LCD TV that?s yours for just £1250. Not only is that cheaper than every other 40in TV we?ve come across, but it?s also cheaper than a good number of 37in LCDs and even a few 32in LCDs! Which surely means there?s got to be a catch. Doesn?t it.

In my opinion, the most desirable LCD format is a 24in widescreen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. The pixel-pitch is about right to accommodate standard text sizes (no more squinting), and you can comfortably fit two pages of A4 (at 100%) side-by-side on the screen (less scrolling). The large desktop area is also great for editing images, playing games and watching movies. However, I can't justify the cost just yet and will make do with my dodgy 19in LCD with its 1,280 x 1,024 resolution and a not so standard 5:4 aspect ratio display area. But, if you really want a widescreen monitor and a little more width in which to operate then this offering from ViewSonic might be right up your street...

The Viewsonic VX924 comes from a long line of high quality LCD screens. This unit however is something that every gamer should consider. Why? Not only because it is a 19" unit but it sports a response time of just 3ms...

Unlike many of the super-low response time monitors that have hit the streets recently, the VP930 uses a proper 8-bit panel - that means you're getting the full 16.7 million colours as opposed to 16.2 million. ViewSonic quotes an 8ms grey to grey response time, which equates to 20ms using the old off-on-off measurement. To be honest though, I don't really put too much stock in response time - I play a lot of games and I'd be hard pushed to see any difference between a 4ms and 16ms display. In fact I played several games on the VP930 and it performed brilliantly, but to be fair that's not what the VP range is all about...

The ViewSonic VX724 doesn't handle colours with the finesse I demand, nor is it the most feature-rich, but it's certainly a monitor that stands out in the value stakes - especially when so many users are currently looking for an LCD with a fast response time.

The ViewSonic VP191s is a well featured 19in TFT monitor with a response time low enough to keep most gamers happy. Image quality is impressive, once the display is set up correctly, allowing this screen to excel in pretty much all areas. The market is hotting up in this arena, but it's clear that the VP range can still hold its own against the ever improving competition.

The VP171b's overall image quality is very good, but you'll have to spend a little time getting it to that point. As for that fast response time, I'm sure it'll please a number of potential users, but as a display for general use whether it be at home or in the office, the added bonus of good connectivity, a lovely design and a decent price tag should see it gain a wider following.

The ViewSonic NextVision N3000w LCD TV gives us a glimpse of what the future will hold when HDTV finally makes its way over here. It clearly shows that LCDs are real alternatives to plasma screens and in this case a true replacement to the conventional CRT television. ViewSonic could be more generous with its cable offering, and a more lush design would go down well, but at only around £140 more than Dell?s W2600 (at the time of writing), you get a bigger screen, and just as many connection options.
