Nvidia also only released one chipset in its nForce 500 series for Intel, however, since it was based on the older, poorly overclocking nForce 4 SPP northbridge, Nvidia quickly dumped 500 series for Intel, which gave birth to nForce 600i series chipsets. Today there are four chipsets in the 600i series, 680i SLI, 680i LT SLI, 650i SLI and 650i Ultra in order from high-end to value. nForce 680i SLI while offering the best features and performance also costs an arm and a leg for just the board, leaving little in the budget for a high-end CPU. Nvidia has however come to the rescue with a slightly cut down version of the 680i SLI, the LT SLI series.

At the sales counter XFX is a company that can be trusted and that is the priceless equation when it comes to making a buying decision. I give the new XFX 680i LT SLI board a Hot Product Award as we all know it's a very solid chipset motherboard and XFX has great customer support. nTune was used first for our overclocking tests and were very surprised to see how well it worked on this board. We were able to achieve an almost 14% gain using NVIDIA's OC tool with our test CPU on the XFX 680I LT SLI board.

There are really no down-side or negative aspects to this EVGA 680LT motherboard, it meets or excels the needs to be the backbone and beginning of any desktop system in today's demanding PC world. EVGA offers their users excellent customer service and with their lifetime warranty on their motherboards is unbeatable so when you buy EVGA you buy more than just the product. Good Job EVGA, this is a board worthy of our Editors Choice Award for its overall effectiveness and overclocking abilities.

Fortunately, for those who are interested in cutting-edge performance, NVIDIA has made a cut-down version of the nForce 680i SLI. This new LT version costs around £30 less than the fully fledged board, and we've received the brand spanking new EVGA nForce 680i LT SLI for review.

While the EVGA 680i LT SLI doesn't win any awards, that's not to say it isn't a good motherboard. The reference design is still reasonably well laid out, performs decently and overclocks very well indeed. It's certainly less noisy than the standard nForce 680i reference design, despite having two chipset fans. Overall, it's essentially an average runner.

There really isn't too much more to say about the nForce 680i LT SLI as there isn't really anything new about the product itself! NVIDIA wanted a part that would fill the void between the 680i and 650i and the 680i LT SLI does just that with a reasonable price-tag for the performance level that is offers. At $199 this board will peak the interest of many gamers that want to have a board that supports SLI Technology!
