People invest a lot of money on their gaming setup ? fast Internet connection, quick response monitor, high fidelity headset, gaming grade keyboard and mouse ? but often overlook a prosaic peripheral: the mouse pad. Sure, top of the line gaming mice will work even on top of your leg but their performance will lack without the proper surface. Razer, a company known for their gaming peripherals like the Piranha headset (that we already tested), released the Destructor, their new gaming grade mouse pad model. He was our trusty brother in arms on the digital battlefields for the last weeks. Let's proceed to our test.

Over the years there has been a ton of changes in the gaming industry, technology has evolved faster than your wallet could follow. So did the market for newer and better mouse pads. Another addition to the already very crowded mouse pad industry is the Destructor Mouse pad from Razer. Razer, which we all know for their gaming mice and accessories have been busy trying to get ground in every aspect connected to gaming and they've done pretty well so far. Let's see what this mouse pad has to offer.

The Razer Destructor Professional Gaming Mat is certainly something gamers should look into buying. Razer's test showed an increase in tracking of 37% with laser mice and 25% compared to other gaming-grade surfaces. This surface is of the highest quality. Razer claims it as the Razer Fractal surface for high-precision gameplay. Something that you probably haven't seen with any other gaming-grade mousepad is a protective carrying case, which comes included with the Destructor. Perfect for on-the-go gamers.

Razer is one of the biggest players in keyboards and mice so they were the first on my list of manufacturers to contact when I started looking for the ultimate mouse pad. After contacting Razer, the rep told me the Destructor was the one. Targeted toward everyday PC users to extreme gamers and everyone in-between the Destructor is aiming to fit the bill for anyone tired of the insensitivity of most mouse surfaces and looking for an advantage at work or at play.

In the previous Razer review, we took a look (and listen) at the new Piranha gaming communicator. The second item they sent over for review is their Destructor gaming mat. More than just your average mouse pad, Razer says their Destructor mat has a proprietary gunmetal coating which yields a highly reactive surface. The result is superior tactility, improved responsiveness and enhanced tracking.

With their new Destructor mousepad Razer continues its tradition of naming products after animals. Their mice are named after dangerous snakes, their keyboards after spiders and this new gaming mousepad is named after the Gigantiops Destructor ant. I've never heard about this creature but a quick search on Google learned me it's a tropical ant with large eyes that can be found in South-America.

The Destructor's surface is made with a proprietary "gunmetal" coating which gives it the exceptional reactive surface. In layman's terms, that means the surface helps laser type mice respond easier than compared to something like the Everglide series. The gunmetal coating appears to be pretty resilient against even against minor abuse such as when you get pwned in game and start slapping the pad or banging your mouse against it. You know who you are out there...

When I was handed the Razer Destructor Pro Gaming Mat (aka a Mouse Pad), and was told to do a review on it, I have to be honest and say I didn't really know where to go with it. I mean, it's a mouse pad; you put your mouse on it, and you go. Not being a career PC gamer, I found it hard to understand the depths that a high quality mouse pad such as this could mean to the PC gaming experience. I mean, really, aren't all black textured mouse pads all the same?

Razer Destructor is the name of the newest hard gaming surface that uses a new surface technology. The Destructor features the all new "Fractal" surface that should enable you to get the best tracking out of your laser or optical mouse.
