The Razer Tarantula is one of the best gaming keyboards out there, if only they fixed the software installation.

At Driver Heaven we spend a lot of time in front of PC's and because of this our components such as keyboards and mice, even headphones, have to be decent quality. Having peripherals which perform well and feel comfortable is essential if you are an enthusiast. It says a lot about Razer that the systems at the desk I work on daily use Razer mice, a DeathAdder and a Diamondback. In addition to this a Barracuda headset can also be found hanging from my chair arm. These components all far exceeded our expectations when we first used them and turned out to be best in their class.

The company describes this as the ultimate keyboard for gamers - they say it's created for gamers, by gamers. The Tarantula is Razer's first attempt at creating a keyboard, in this review I'm going to take a look whether it's worth your hard-earned money. As this is the first review of a Razer product on DV Hardware, I'm first going to give you a little bit of background information. Razer is an American company that makes computer peripherals for gamers, they are best known for their computer mice, but they also have keyboards, mousepads and audio solutions in their product lineup.

Razer have transformed the gaming mouse market with their several successive mice; each building on the plus points of the last. With speaker systems and headsets; the keyboard was only a matter of time. Today I have the Razer Tarantula which is Razer's first attempt (bar the Microsoft Reclusa).

With the Tarantula Razer has created a keyboard that is designed to suit the needs of gamers. The keyboard offers programmable macro keys and lets you also reorganize your keyboard layout by swapping keys. As always, Razer's software is intuitive to use and offers a lot of features. Unfortunately with a $129.99 price tag the keyboard is fairly expensive.
