Logitech's diNovo Mini Keyboard may be small in size but when it comes down to the crunch, you'll find that it packs a mighty punch.

It has been a long time since I last reviewed a Logitech product. CES has come and gone and with the show brought some interesting items. One such item that Logitech was showing was the diNovo Mini which is targeted to media center PCs like those provided by MythTV. The diNovo Mini was released a few weeks ago and it is the spotlight in this review.

If you've got a Home Theater PC (HTPC), you know how awkward it can be keeping a full-sized keyboard lying around your living room. Logitech feels your pain, and has come up with a miniature wireless keyboard that doesn't take up much space but offers full control over any PC from up to 30 feet away. Its touchpad is a bit sensitive and you won't be typing a term paper on it, but for 99% of HTPC control tasks the diNovo Mini works wonderfully and is one of the most well-designed controllers we've ever tested. If you have a Playstation 3, the diNovo Mini works well with that system too.

Logitech surprised us at CES with the launch of their diNovo Mini media keyboard, which is not much larger than a cell phone. But despite its size, it packs in the functionality, and is even supported by the Playstation 3. Are we impressed? Let's just say that once again, Logitech has pulled it off.

You are sitting in your living room, on that beautiful, comfortable, black leather sofa you picked up just a few years ago. The designer lights on the walls are dimmed as the clock ticks past ten. The 50" LCD TV you've come to enjoy everyday after work is eight meters away from you. Under the TV is the home theater PC, along with an array of high end audio and video equipment with their LED lights and displays blinking and flashing in all its glory. Your media computer is hooked up to your television screen using an HDMI cable. CAT5e cables runs around your home with a network operating at Gigabit speeds to stream terabytes of media files from your server to your big screen TV and powerful audio system. An air of tension and suspense fills your living room as the blasts and emotions of the movies are about to come alive on the screen in front of you. You put your feet on the coffee table, wiggle your toes a bit underneath your black socks, and grab a warm cup of coffee to enjoy I am Legend on Bluray. As the clock on the wall continues to tick ever so faithfully while you sit there and wait for something to happen, a sense of shock and horror overcomes you. "How can the computer be operated from the comfort of my sofa without a wireless keyboard and mouse?" you wonder. The year is 2008.

This little palm-sized keyboard is the perfect device for controlling your PS3 or HTPC machine. Any HTPC user looking for something better to use with their computer who doesn't expect to do heavy typing will want to get the Logitech diNovo Mini. It's not cheap at about $149, but it is hands down the ideal choice for a home theater PC keyboard.
