Saying the world needs another smartphone manufacturer is like saying Britain doesn't need to outsource summer. Only this is different. This is HP. Best known in the computer world for just about everything, the U.S.-based powerhouse is now trying its hand at corporate communications at a personal level. And you'll be pleased to know that its first product is actually very decent. The iPAQ 514 (around £187, SIM-free) is perfectly sized for day-to-day business use. It's neither too big nor too small, and the keypad is neatly placed towards the bottom of the handset to make as much room for the colour display as possible. The black-and-silver device is also relatively slim and light (486x163x107mm, 102g), so it can fit neatly into a shirt or trouser pocket and not cause too much discomfort.

This is a good looking all-in-one, but in comparison with earlier machines we're not happy with the print quality, the noise of the scan head and the lack of a PictBridge socket. For these reasons, the Photosmart C5280 doesn't score as well as we thought it would upon opening the box.

There's a great deal to like about the HP w2207. It offers market leading design, superb adjustability and has all the features a display should. Image quality is generally excellent, however it comes with the notable caveat that it sometimes struggles with motion smearing and ghosting. Even so this is a great monitor, and if you can excuse the motion problems it will serve you well.

Only a couple of years ago, Apple's 30in Cinema Display was your only option if you wanted a 2,560 x 1,600 monitor, but a lot has changed since then. Obviously Dell appeared on the scene, making 30in displays far more affordable and adding better screen adjustment into the bargain. I reviewed Dell's latest 30in display last week - the UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC - which was a decent screen apart from the lack of colour calibration at the factory. While the superb Samsung 305T offered outstanding image quality and colour accuracy out of the box. The HP LP3065 provides another option for anyone looking for a 30in display, but how does it fare against the competition?

When it comes to well designed notebooks it's usually Apple that gets all of the attention. However, manufacturers of Windows based machines have been making great strides in recent years and when I see machines such as HP's Pavilion dv2560ea I can't help think that it's a little unfair that Apple gets all the glory. The comparisons will be made however, as the Pavilion dv2560ea is in the same size, weight and price bracket as Apple's Macbook, and Samsung's Q70.

I have never been a big fan of the "Swiss Army Knife" approach to things, but when Geeks.com offered us the HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One USB Printer, it just looked too good to pass up. The HP Officejet 5610 offers a full featured printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine all in one attractive and reasonably priced package.

I have been very clearly briefed by Hewlett Packard that the iPAQ 514 Voice Messenger is a smartphone primarily for business users, and not a phone aimed at those who like to have the very latest features at their fingertips. Yes it runs Windows Mobile 6, which makes it something of a rarity at the moment and in this respect it is 'state of the art'. But there are features which some consumers will turn their nose up at.

If colour laser printers were sold by the kilogram, HPs Color LaserJet CP4005n would be well worth its asking price. If you ignore its 48kg weight, though, which is a good two-person lift, you start to wonder why even a workgroup printer like this one needs to be quite so massive.

The design of the HP tx1000 is meant to fuse together sleek styling and ease-of-use features, along with a tablet-enabled screen and enough horsepower to run multiple applications under Windows Vista Home Premium edition - definitely no small task. For an entertainment notebook that will be used for so many different types of activities - taking handwritten notes, watching DVDs, listening to music, web conferencing with both audio and video, playing games, and all other general productivity tasks - the physical characteristics of the notebook become extremely important. Fortunately, the tx1000 product designers did a thorough job envisioning all of these types of activities when planning the physical layout of the notebook.
