NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GT 512MB has turned out to be a bestseller but can the company repeat the formula with a more affordable 256MB variant? Find out if this version is indeed worthy of its G92 pedigree.

HDMI video cards have been growing and growing in the market place thanks to the pickup of high definition TVs. While a lot of TVs still carry a VGA port which for the most part does an excellent job, the ability to also have the sound go to the TV with just the one cable is bliss to a lot of people. Leadtek is the latest company to jump on the bandwagon, and they haven't tried to go down the sneak "Decoder Card" route like another company did. They have instead released two models, an 8500GT and 8600GT both sporting a HDMI port straight on the I/O.

Here at ThinkComputers we have not checked out a video card in some time. Our previous 5 vide card reviews have been ATI cards so it's nice to check out something based on an NVIDIA chip. Today we will be taking a look at the Leadtek WinFast PX8600 GTS Video Card. Let's see how it will perform against some of those ATI cards we have previously reviewed. Geeks.com was nice enough to send it over and is a great place to find inexpensive video cards.

The Ultra hasn't done great thus far. The high price tag, lack of availability and the high price tag meant that no one could really justify the high price tag. Oh, and did I mention it was very expensive? If it wasn't expensive enough already, Leadtek turn around and stick a big phat water cooling solution on it to jack the price up that bit more. Is it really worth it though? The biggest bad boy at the moment in the air cooled arena is the XFX 8800 Ultra XXX edition that packs quite a punch.

The new Leadtek/WinFast PX8600 GTS TDH Extreme graphics card with the GDDR3 memory clocked to 1000(2000)Mhz and the GPU set to 710Mhz it is set to be a real screamer for the money, but can it do it? We put this new card through some hard testing and it came out without a scratch.

Touted as the next great thing for PC gaming, DirectX 10 games have been slow to appear in retail for a variety of reasons. Leadtek has seized upon one of the earlier such games to be released, Lost Planet and hopes to use it to attract consumers to its GeForce 8600 GT.

I've said it before: the 8800-series cards are great. They are heavy-hitters in the gaming world. They are well-built and very quiet. And, even though they've been available for some time, their domination of the high-end market doesn't seem to be challenged. On the bench, we've got a Leadtek "WinFast" 8800GTS 640MB video card. It is stock-clocked, lightly bundled, and priced enticingly at well under $400. Now that the initial drawbacks are moot, is it still the card of your dreams, or have new drawbacks cropped up?

The GeForce 8800GTS 320 MB is also in a great position when considering there is no immediate threat to it from AMD. Although the Radeon HD X2900 XT is out, the card is targeted to compete with the GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB version, and priced as such with an MSRP of US$ 400. From our experience, the GeForce 8800GTS 320 MB offer about the same performance as the 640 MB version, except in high resolutions and in certain games where memory capacity is extremely important. Today, we're going to take a look at four difference GeForce 8800GTS 320 MB cards from four difference manufacturers. They are the ASUS EN8800GTS, Gigabyte NX8800GTS, Leadtek PX8800GTS TDH and MSI NX8800GTS OC Edition. Of the four, the MSI NX8800GTS OC Edition uses a slightly higher core and memory clock.

Well, at last we no longer have to make that decision as nVidia has stepped up to the plate and announced three new DirectX10 products, the GeForce 8600 GTS, GeForce 8600 GT and GeForce 8500 GT. Priced from $229 all the way down to $89, these cards now mean that everyone has at least one DX10 capable option, whatever their budget. All we need now is for ATI to provide us with some competition! While all three cards were announced last week, nVidia has said that the 8500 GT and 8600 GT won't be available immediately and the 8600 GTS was the only card to truly 'hard launch' last week. So, today we're just taking a look at a pair of these cards.

NVIDIA is now shipping its GeForce 8800 GTS with 320MB of graphics memory, enough for most users running relatively modest resolutions and best of all, it is available at a lower price point. Here is Leadtek's take on this new variant of NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTS.

Splinter Cell double agent is a slow moving game so it would be hard to notice low FPS. So much so it is possible to play this game at 2048x1536! Should you wish too, Just check out that shadow eye candy?! Which shows the Leadtek 7950GT Extreme 512mb is more than capable of dealing with today's games.

DirectX 10 alters a lot of things, but the biggest change is the introduction of a geometry shader. This means that geometry is no longer processed on the CPU, but instead created directly on the GPU where it can then be manipulated or destroyed. This is a natural progression and lends itself easily to having physics processed on the GPU as well. With this in place, a lot less data is being inefficiently transferred across the PCI Express bus.
