While at first due to the naming scheme you might think that the card is a dual core solution, much like the GeForce 7950GX2, it certainly is not that. It is designed to sit above the older GeForce 7900GT as far as performance goes (which of course means it?s faster then the new 7900GS that was released only last week) and as far as pricing goes, it?s going up directly against ATI?s new Radeon X1900XT 256MB. It comes with 512MB worth of fast GDDR-3 compared to just 256MB on the 7900GT and has its core and memory clock speeds have increased quite a healthy margin.

The 7900GS which we have with us today sits at the top of the mid-range or the bottom of the high-end range, which ever way you want to look at it. Designed to compete with the X1900GT in price and performance, it should be an interesting battle. While the 7900GT from nVidia is normally consistently ahead of the Radeon X1900GT, it is also more expensive so both cards offer excellent value but if you?re on a strict budget, you will most likely going to choose the cheaper X1900GT. The new 7900GS is placing nVidia in that low $220 USD ($300 AUD) bracket again.

With the announcement of the 7950GT and the 7900GS, NVIDIA looks to bring the 79xx series into the upper mid-range of the market with price points of $199 for the 7900GS. At this price point, you get all of the performance and features of the 7800GT on the 90 nanometer process. ATI has lowered their x1900xt in price to compete with the 7950GT, but without a 7950GT it's hard to compare. XFX continues to deliver high-end quality VGA cards to the market and the 7900GS is a solid Editors Choice due to its performance and price point. Good Job XFX!

The 7900 GS is literally in a league of its own. ATI has no part that can compete with it at the $199 price point. The high-end features and power of the G71 core make it the card to have for anyone not willing to pony up three, four, or five bills for the latest and greatest. If one wants to run SLI with a pair of GeForce 7900GS video cards it can be done for under $400, which is a heck of a deal for the performance numbers that we are seeing...

The XFX GeForce 7900 GT Extreme Edition performed really well in our tests. In most of the game benchmarks, this card managed to beat the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT card by 20-30% at stock speeds. This improved to about 40-60% when the card was further overclocked!

The XFX 7600 GS Extreme Edition is a solid gaming card and can play pretty much every game out today with a lot of the higher detail settings enabled. Of course doing so means that you'll need to run at medium resolutions like 1024x768 but this is on a $135 video card remember?

The GeForce 7900 GT is the flavor of the month with enthusiasts looking for a reasonably powerful high-end card worth their dollar. The problem though is it seems that there aren't enough of them to go round. We did manage to secure an extreme, overclocked version from XFX and here are our thoughts...

Recently Nvidia and its partners rolled out their latest video card featuring the 7900 GPU utilizing the new 90nm process technology and a host of other goodies. Initially availability seemed fairly good at many online retailers, but as of the writing of this article, most etailers have an extremely limited selection ready to ship out. So what makes this card such an instant success that stock rolls out of warehouses and onto enthusiasts doorsteps as quickly as it's produced? Today we'll have a look at one of those packages we all like to see in a brown box on our doorstep in the shape of XFX's 7900GT...

The 7900GTX, codenamed G71, is nVidia's entry into the 90nm fab process technology- we're not counting their onboard 6100/6150 GPUs. The move to 90nm gives nVidia the power to produce smaller sized GPUs that are cheaper to manufacture and produce lesser heat- a win-win situation. ATI has already switched to 90nm process with the launch of their x1800 series. Inside the box, the card is well packed for protection against any damages in shipping and handling. Along with the user manual and quick start guides, XFX throws in the drivers CD and a full version of Starship Troopers game. Strangely, no DVI-DSUB converter or any cable was included in the package which is weird as XFX puts an HDTV sticker on the front and some people might not have the 6-pin power connector needed for this card. There is no doubt that the 7900GTX is one fast card, easily the fastest card available from Nvidia. The introduction of the 7900GTX has put Nvidia back in contention for fastest video card available, but according to our testing, can't quite make the claim of the fastest. Even with the core speed of our XFX card clocked to 700 MHz the 7900GTX just doesn't have enough to pull it off, but is very close...

NVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB not only doubles its frame buffer but increases its core and memory clock speeds, making it the most powerful graphics card on paper now. XFX has one of these steroids boosted cards and we put it to a battery of benchmarks to validate this claim...

XFX's appeal to the enthusiast segment mainly lies with its overclocked graphics cards that have the high tolerance needed to survive the rigors of the hardware tinkler. For the less adventurous, the turbocharged XFX GeForce 6800 GS 256MB XXX Edition makes it worth taking a closer look...

There's a new King of Consumer Graphics in town, and he goes by the name of GeForce 7800 GTX 512. NVIDIA's latest high-end hardware creation pairs a tweaked G70 and accompanying PCB, with a new dual-slot cooler and 512MiB of on-board memory, to create the fastest consumer hardware to ever process a pixel fragment. With the GPU clocked at 550MHz, as it is with 8 vertex units and 24 pixel processors, there's nothing to stop it at the time of writing. Memory clocked at 850MHz (1.7GHz DDR) keeps the chip fed with data and the larger memory size compared to the lesser GTX means there's more room for it to work in, giving outstanding performance at high resolution...

X's GeForce 6600 DDR2 256MB card provides more-than decent performance for the £80 asking price. Add to this the high-quality bundle and immediate availability and we have little reservation in recommending it to gamers who are looking to upgrade to a PCI-Express card and want a fistful of change from £100...
