ECS has released a new mATX motherboard based on the Intel G33 chipset, their model number G33T-M2 (V1.0). This motherboard offers a budget conscious solution for "ultra slim multimedia systems" that leaves a few of the G33 chipset's capabilities on the shelf for the higher priced boards to offer. It is not geared towards serious gamers and enthusiasts, but it also isn't a lightweight.

The ECS G33T-M2 motherboard proved to be a stable platform to build a system around and had solid performance numbers to go along with the stability. If you don't need any PATA drives then this Micro-ATX motherboard should fit the bill...

The G33 Express chipset is in no danger of being confused with INTEL's P35 or X38 chipsets when it comes to all out performance, but its features certainly aren't lacking. These include, among other things, INTEL's GMA3100 integrated graphics, which includes INTEL's "Clear Video Technology", HDMI support, and HD Audio, making it a good base for your next HTPC project. Today, HL puts ECS' G33T-M2M-ATX board through its paces, and tells you whether its worth considering for your next HTPC project.

The ECS G33T-M2 motherboard is based on Intel's news integrated graphics chipset, the G33 Express, and like the Intel P35 Express makes an awesome duo when paired with a dual core Intel Core 2 Duo processor... or a new 1333MHz FSB CPU for that matter. This board is also interesting because it's the first platform to pass through the PCSTATS test labs without an IDE slot.

To this end, new chipsets have come to the air of the Core 2 desktop platform. First there was the P965, the best chipset Intel has released in ages. It overclocked extremely well and supported DDR2-800 memory technology. Now with DDR-3 hitting the shelves, Intel has its next generation of hybrid chipsets out which are designed to bridge the DDR-2 to DDR-3 platform gap (similar to how i915 supported both DDR and DDR-2 memory on a single chip, depending on what you want to use). We have looked at the mainstream version of the bridge chipset, the P35 has proven to be a very powerful performer. Today we are looking at the first of the value chipsets with Intel's latest integrated graphics core, the G33. ECS has provided us with their latest G33 motherboard to test.
