Data CD Reading Tests
- Pressed CD results (Click for CDSpeed results)
Looking at the graph above for pressed CD media, it can be seen that the BTC DRW1008IM was the fastest among the three drives. The final speed reached, 43.84x is quite a high reading speed, and confirms the manufacturers specifications for 40x reading.
On the seek times test, the drive recorded good times but not the best, being slightly slower that the Optorite DD0401.
- CD-R Media results (Click for CDSpeed results)
We next made a copy of the pressed CD used in the previous test, in order to check the drive's behaviour with CD-R media. Once again the BTC drive performed very well, being the fastest.
Here too, while the drive's seek times were quite good, it was again a shade slower than the Optorite drive.
- ReWritable Media (Click for CDSpeed results)
For this reading test with ReWritable media, we used 24x High Speed rewritable media from Mitsubishi Chemicals.
The reading speed with CD-RW media was quite good. The reported speeds place the drive in the middle of our typical comparison, with Optorite proving to be the fastest here.
