- Writing Tests

We burned some DVD+R DL discs with DVD-Video content. The source disc was "Gladiator Movie - Special Edition" disc1 with a total size of 6.86GB. First we transferred the movie to the hard disc with DVD Decrypter as ISO format (single file). We used Double Layer media provided by Traxdata and Verbatim (MKM). The following snapshot shows the media code for these Double Layer discs.

We then used the latest version of CopyToDVD with Traxdata Double Layer media, and specifically the "Movie & Pictures" option, and then "Write DVD Video". The software prompts us to select Video_TS/ISO image folder. We chose the "GLADIATOR.ISO" image and we selected the NEC ND-6500A burner.

After pressing "OK", the burning procedure started. It should be noted that we did not change the default booktype setting prior to writing the disc to idenify the default booktype setting for this media type.

The writing process finished after 37:48 minutes, a very good time for 2.4X double layer writing. The average speed was 2.34X as reported by the CopyToDVD software.

The second disc we burned was Verbatim Double Layer media. Recording time was reduced to 37:42 minutes and the average speed reported was 2.35X:

As you can see, the ND-6500A is not the fastest double layer burner, but for 2.4X writing speed, it performs very well.
