TerraMaster is a well-known storage solutions manufacturer and since NVME SSDs have become a reality, many users asked for an NVME SSD storage NAS server that combines speed, reduced power consumption, and of course overall volume. TerraMaster currently sells two models, the F8 and F8 plus with support with up to 8NVME SSDs. Their main differences are the different processors (Intel N95 for the F8 and Intel i3 N305 for the F8 Plus) and the pre-installed memory module (8GB SODIMM DDR5 for the F8 and 16GB SODIMM DDR5 for the F8 Plus model). Users can upgrade both models with up to 64GB (single module) DIMM (prefer mostly Crucial DIMMs) and Terramaster also sells their own branded memory upgrade kits that are guaranteed to work 100%.
The F8 SSD is the industry's first custom-built, 8-bay, all-SSD NAS designed specifically for small businesses. Featuring an Intel N95 4-core, 4-thread CPU, it is the most robust palm-sized 8-bay NAS currently available, possesses superior processing speeds, and is designed to be more compact than its competitors. The F8 SSD provides small business users with exceptional performance for virtualization, databases, and websites. Domestic users will benefit from its remarkable processing speed and near-silent operation as it provides the ultimate hardware solution for data backup and multimedia services. The F8 SSD will fulfill any consumer requirements via its combination of speed, power, and efficiency.
- Features
The F8 SSD includes an Intel N95 4-core, 4-thread processor with a turbo frequency of up to 3.4GHz. It features integrated Intel UHD Graphics with a dynamic frequency of 1.20GHz, 16 execution units, 4K hardware decoding, and AES NI hardware encryption support. The F8 SSD supports 4K video transcoding and is portable, making it ideal for film and television production, post-production in small audio-visual studios, and small-scale production teams. It also provides excellent random read-write performance for virtualization environments and database applications.
Specs the F8 SSD supports up to 32GB of DDR5 4800MHz SODIMM memory, even though users have successfully installed up to 64GB of memory kits. It also packs an RJ45 10Gbps Ethernet port for high-speed bandwidth for NAS use. In practical applications, the F8 SSD should deliver linear read-write speeds peaking at 1020MB/s and 4K random read-write speeds approaching 300MB/s to ensure smooth image and video read-write capabilities.
In standby mode, its noise level is virtually imperceptible (< 19dB) which provides an ultra-silent user experience. With its compact size and ultra-quiet operation, the F8 SSD blends seamlessly into any home environment, meeting your placement needs effortlessly.
By employing SSDs as its storage medium, the F8 SSD eliminates the noise generated by multiple mechanical hard drives. The F8 SSD can house up to 8 M.2 NVMe 2280 (M key) SSDs, offering an exceptional storage capacity of up to 64TB (based on 8TB SSDs). All NVMEs can use their heatsink, but Terramaster also offers their cooling solution with a passive heatsink and two 50X50X10mm fans for best heat dispass performance. Even at full load this NAS server will maintain a low temperature and remain quiet, even under full load.
In addition, the F8 SSD includes a USB 3.2 10Gbps interface that allows it to easily connect to USB external storage devices for further expansion of storage space. Adding TerraMaster D8 Hybrid, for example, can add up to an extra 128 TB of storage space to meet a wide range of data storage needs.
Due to its design, the F8 SSD features an integrated drawer-style design that has several advantages over other models. Firstly, it allows users to quickly install SSDs (or expand memory) in under two minutes without the need for any tools. Secondly, the integrated design simplifies connectors and optimizes the layout of components, resulting in improved performance and reduced power consumption. Finally, this design reduces the risks associated with moving the F8 SSD which significantly enhances its portability.
The F8 SSD supports Terramaster's TOS 6 operating system (Linux-based), which features an upgraded user interaction design and a revitalized user interface. You can expect a comprehensive range of storage configurations, supporting various RAID types including Single, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10. Additionally, it introduces TerraMaster's elastic array (TRAID) facilitating online capacity expansion, migration, and hot spare disk configuration within the array. Users can create multiple storage spaces and select between ext4 or Btrfs file systems based on their business needs. For added flexibility, pair the F8 SSD with the TerraMaster USB DAS disk array to seamlessly expand storage capacity as required.
Under TOS users can manage containers or projects via the Docker Manager visualization tool while VirtualBox provides the tools for new business owners to virtualize any environment and launch their business quickly and cost-effectively. TerraMaster has developed a suite of data backup tools to protect digital assets. The “TerraMaster File System Snapshot (TFSS)” and “Snapshot” services provide snapshot capabilities - from volume to folder levels - that actively shield your data from ransomware risks. The intelligent offline backup feature of USB Copy provides an additional layer of defense against malicious attacks. For a holistic backup approach, Duple Backup presents a one-stop solution for implementing a 3-2-1 backup strategy across volumes, folders, and iSCSI LUN data.
Furthermore, TerraMaster’s Centralized Backup solution is tailored to meet the custom backup requirements of commercial users by providing active central management of backup tasks that cater to Windows workstations, file servers, and virtual machines. By using TerraMaster's TerraSync service to transform their NAS into a private cloud server and eliminate file access barriers, users can experience unrestricted access to personal or shared files from any location, at any time, and across multiple platforms and devices. With TerraSync, synchronizing files seamlessly across devices has never been more straightforward.
Lastly, with TerraMaster's CloudSync, users can link their cloud storage and NAS for the synchronized sharing of data. CloudSync consolidates various mainstream cloud synchronization functions (including Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, Dropbox, Baidu, and Alibaba Cloud) which enables users to simplify their workflow by managing their cloud synchronization requirements within a single application.
