Samsung SDI and LG Chem Showcase Advanced Batteries

Samsung SDI and LG Chem Showcase Advanced Batteries

Enterprise & IT Oct 14,2014 0

Samsung SDI and LG Chem are showcasing their battery technologies for smartphones and electric vehicles at the "InterBattery Technology Exhibition" in the COEX Convention Center, southern Seoul. Samsung unveiled "rollable batteries" for what the company claims is the most advanced flexible battery beyond curved and bendable ones. The company plans to start mass production within the next few years as the company needs to improve production yields.

Samsung showcased batteries for mobile devices, curved batteries for smartbands, and slim batteries for electric cards. Among the new products at Samsung's booth were a 20mm long, pin-sized battery with a ddiameter of just 3.6mm and a 10mAh capacity.

The company had also on display a dual-battery system, which is jointly being developed by Ford, and energy storage systems and battery packs exclusively developed for BMW's i3 model.

LG Chem displayed stepped batteries with greater longevity and greater flexibility, as well as curved batteries and cable batteries. Models of Hyundai Motors' Grandeur hybrid electric vehicle and General Motors' Spark were on stage.

The exhibition runs until Thursday.
