Verbatim-MKM To Manufacture And Sell Archival-Grade M-Discs

Verbatim and Millenniata have entered a global M-Disc agreement jointly develop, promote and sell Millenniata's highly-durable DVD and Blu-ray discs, including 200GB BD-DSDs.

As part of the agreement between the two companies, which Millenniata's Chief Executive described as "deep and wide-ranging," Verbatim and its parent company, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), will begin worldwide marketing and sales programs of M-Disc branded DVD and BD-R media for consumers and enteprises. MKM will also pursue M-Disc relationships with archival software developers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in the personal computer and optical disc drive (ODD) markets, including M-Ready ODD manufacturers.

Initial Verbatim and M-Disc product offerings for enterprise customers, end-users and SMBs under this agreement will include the 4.7GB DVD M-Discs; 25GB BD-R M-Discs; 100GB BD-R BDXL M-Discs; and 200GB Double Sided, Blu-ray Disc (BD-DSD) M-Discs.

BD-DSD is a Blu-ray Disc specification that allows storing up to 200GB of data in double-sided Blu-ray discs placed into cartridges.

Additionally, Millenniata, Verbatim and MKM have agreed to joint development efforts designed to expand the capabilities and capacities of archival-grade data storage technologies both in terms of longevity and data storage capacity.

Millenniata?s patented M-Disc technology for archival grade Blu-ray and DVD optical media provides users with data storage options that can last for up to 1,000 years.

The company's writable M-Discs utilize a layer of patent-protected inorganic materials, rendering archival-grade M-Disc DVDs and BD-R discs practically impervious to environmental exposure - unlike typical writable BD-R or DVD discs. Incorporating these patented rock-like materials ensures that it is nearly impossible to degrade the data stored on an M-Disc BD-R or DVD disc.

ISO/IEC 10995/16963 standard longevity tests have proven the durability of Millenniata's patented M-Disc technology. Based upon Millenniata's laboratory tests, M-Discs have an expected usable lifetime of over 50 years.

Verbatim/MKM anticipates that its co-branded Verbatim and MKM/M-Disc DVDs and BD-R discs will be available in early 2015.

M-Discs are compatible with specific BD burners from Pioneer, LG, Samsung, LiteOn and Panasonic.

Seperately, Verbatim announced plans to enter the 3D printing market with a range of ABS, PLA and soon to be announced other filament solutions. The new products will be available February 2015.

Last but not least, Verbatim introduced the Deluxe Mice. Available in both 6-Button and 8-Button designs, these mice offer multi-button functionality:

- Standard Left/Right Button
- Scroll wheel: scroll within web browser or documents ? no need to move mouse
- DPI button controls mouse sensitivity
- Back/Forward buttons allow you to easily navigate between pages in your browser
- Zoom
- Windows 8 Home

The Verbatim 6-Button and 8-Button Deluxe Mice feature Blue LED technology, allowing users to navigate on virtually any surface, from a glass tabletop to granite countertop. 2.4GHz wireless performance allows for lag-free cursor movement. Each mouse connects to the computer via a nano receiver, small enough to plug in and leave connected.

The 6-Button and 8-Button Deluxe Mice and all Verbatim mice are backed by a 1-Year Limited Warranty and will be available March 2015.

Verbatim will also add the Verbatim AC/USB Portable Power Outlet to its existing range of Power Pack chargers.

The Verbatim AC/USB Portable Power Outlet offers 12,000mAh of portable power and can directly charge laptops and other devices with the AC output (65W max). It can also charge tablets, smartphones and similar devices with the USB output.

Finally, Verbatim si updating its line of USB Flash Drives with the new 'Metal Executive' models.

The drive features a metal enclosure, fully encapsulated Chip on Board (COB) technology for water resistance and reliability. A lanyard is also included for added convenience. Available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, the Metal Executive USB Drive will be available April 2015.
