In digital imaging HP is best known for its inkjet printers. Yet the company has over a half-dozen digital cameras meant for casual picture taking. While not targeted to Ansel Adams wannabes, better HP Photosmart digicams more than do the job for the vast majority of photographers. We were big fans of the now discontinued 5MP HP R707. That model is long gone, replaced-and then some--by HP's top-of- the-line R927, an 8.2-megapixel point-and-shoot camera with a 3x optical zoom. What really sets it apart is its 3-inch LCD screen, one of the largest you can get. The camera has a number of other pluses and minuses. Does the Photosmart R927 offer more plus than minus? Let's start shooting and find out...

If you have a need to print pages larger than A4, but not as big as traditional wide-format printers, the DesignJet 90r could be just what you're looking for. Aimed at the graphics professional, it can print at sizes up to A2+, while still sitting on a desktop, albeit a big one...

Business class never had it so good thanks to HP's new flagship 20.1-inch LCD the LP2065. Let's face it, a wide-screen display is nice, but not every situation calls for one. And in the business space there are plenty of reasons why a 20.1-inch LCD fits the bill. The LP2065 is unarguably one of the better LCD's out there when it comes to choosing a new monitor for your company; oh let us count thy ways. Gamers might want to take a look at the LP2065 too, especially if you have a thing for HP monitors...

Housed in a cream and charcoal grey case with a slight curve to its front panel to relieve the 'big cube' look, the Color LaserJet 3000 is a large device, though still light enough to be moved around by one, muscular person. Aimed at the workgroup environment, it's a little surprising that the main paper tray can only take 250 sheets at a time, but there is a 100 sheet, multipurpose tray, too, which folds down from the front panel...

HP breaks the mold with their new F2105 21-in. widescreen LCD monitor. This unique LCD looks like it belongs in outer space with its curved base and metallic design. While it looks like the F2105 should belong in your family room, don?t let its appearances fool you; this is strictly a PC monitor. Priced at around $700, the F2105 has quickly earned its way to one of our favorite monitors...

It's been tried before, most notably by Kodak, but the concept of a camera which docks with a matching printer remains a good idea. This HP bundle is aimed at those thinking of switching from a conventional camera and buying their first digital setup. Its two big advantages are that it's very easy to get prints from your camera and that it costs under £150...

HP produces mono laser printers ranging from small personal devices up to huge departmental behemoths. The LaserJet 2420d sits some way above the personals and is a fast office or small workgroup device. This model isn't enabled for network use, though you can add various cable and wireless options as needed...

The HP Photosmart 475 GoGo Photo Printer lets you print and share your digital images anywhere, just grab its built-in handle and go. This compact and portable printer produces 4x6", 5x7" and 4x12" (panoramic) borderless prints quickly and easily. The Photosmart 475 is the first photo printer to feature a 1.5 GB internal hard disk drive - this lets you store up to 1,000 of your favorite photos or video clips. You can print these photos or use the TV output feature to display them on a big-screen TV and operate it from the comfort of your easy chair with the included remote control...

The HP Photosmart 385 Photo Printer lets you preview, edit and select photos to print from its built-in color LCD. It's easy to print lab-quality borderless 4 x 6-inch photos without a computer and thanks to the HP Vivera Inks, your prints are outstanding with vivid colors and resist fading for generations. Unlike many other photo printers, the Photosmart 385 has a per-print cost as low as $0.24 so it's quite economical to operate...

The DAT 72 model on review is the external version which is well built with the drive enclosed in a sturdy plastic chassis. The USB cable is fixed at the rear and the internal power supply means the drive can be
powered with standard kettle lead. Our only complaint is that the internal cooling fan is a tad on the noisy side. The drive uses compact 4mm tapes and has the added advantage of being backward read and write
compatible with DDS-4 and DDS-3 media as well. Installation is a swift process as the drivers need to be installed first after which the drive can be plugged in...

At first it was enough for photo printer makers to add a portable model to their mix. Now that most companies sell one, a little more creativity is required to separate one from the pack. HP has stepped up to the challenge with the Photosmart 475 ($279), a.k.a. GoGo, an unabashedly cute tagalong that prints not only the requisite 4 x 6 prints but 5 x 7 enlargements too. GoGo went a step further, adding 1.5 gigabytes of internal storage that can pack up to 1,000 images. Take it to the next family party, hook it up to a TV and you can run a slide show that lasts all afternoon...

The Photosmart 8250 has pleasantly simple lines, without the wealth of buttons and lights seen on some of its rivals. A single row of buttons is augmented by a button wheel for menu navigation and a big blue indicator to show printing. At the extreme right there's a memory card reader under a hinged cover, supporting CompactFlash, SD/MMC, MemoryStick and xD, but not SmartMedia - those with older cameras beware...

The HP PhotoSmart R817, like its 6.2-megapixel sibling Photosmart R717, features HP Real Life technologies with HP Instant Share, a technology that makes sharing, printing, and saving digital photos easy. In addition, the PhotoSmart R817 offers 5.1-megapixels of resolution, a Pentax 5x optical zoom, 32 megabytes of internal memory and PictBridge capabilities, all wrapped up in a very compact, stylish and durable stainless-steel / high-impact plastic body...

Contracting BenQ as the OEM to supply DVD writers was the first step in the right direction for HP's latest dvd640e DVD writer with LightScribe technology. We were impressed by the HP drive just as much as we were by the BenQ DW1625 when we reviewed it sometime earlier this year. Important qualities such as fast seek time, good media compatibility and sound write quality were all present, which means to say the dvd640e is just as good a product for your optical storage needs as similarly classed writers from other respectable brands. It's quite unfortunate that the drive could only muster a maximum DVD read speed of 12x instead of the rated 16x transfer rate...

The HP Photosmart M22 is a good concept that is let down badly by very inferior performance and picture quality. It is remarkably cheap, but even at under £85 it still isn't good value for money. If you need weather resistance then there are better outdoor pursuits cameras available, such as the Pentax Optio WP and Olympus Mju 500, both of which have vastly superior performance...
