For our DVD reading tests, we used a variety of media, either burned or pressed Test Discs to measure the drive's performance.
According to the official specifications, the Pioneer BDR-S13U-X can read DVD-ROM at 16x, DVD-ROM DL at 12x, DVD-R at 16x, DVD-R DL at 12x, DVD-RW at 12x, DVD+R at 16x, DVD+R DL at 12x, DVD+RW at 12x, DVD-RAM at 5x and M-DISC(DVD) at 16x.
Single Layer DVD Media
Pressed ABEX TDR-820 (Single Sided Single Layer DATA)
The drive reads in CAV the disc, starts from 6.21X and ends at 17.21X.
4.7GB DVD-RW Reading
4.7 GB DVD+RW Reading
With Single layer DVD+/-RW media, we got very good reading performance up to 12X.
4.7 GB DVD-RAM Reading
The drive can read DVD-RAM media at 5X as specifications indicate.
Dual Layer Media
Pressed ABEX TDR-840 (Single Sided Dual Layer DATA)
Pressed Accesstek PTP ROM-9 disc
Again similar results with another PTP DVD-9 test media.
Pressed Accesstek OTP ROM-9 Test disc
No issues with OTP DVD-9 ROM media as well.
Pressed Matrix Movie (DVD-9 Video Ripping Disc)
Dual Layer DVD-Video can be read at an average reading speed of 9.0, and it can go up to 12.7X, very impressive performance.
8.5GB DVD-/+R DL media
The drive can read both DVD+/-R DL up to 12X with an average of 8.94X reading speed.
