AMD Zen 2 "Matisse" Architecture Coming in 2019: report

AMD Zen 2 "Matisse" Architecture Coming in 2019: report

PC components Sep 26,2017 0

AMD seems to plan to launch desktop and notebook processors based on the evolution of its current ZEN architecture in 2019.

Spanish website Informatica Cero has posted a slide said to be coming from inside AMD, which shows the company's CPU roadmap until 2019.

On the desktop side, AMD's "Pinacle Ridge" seems to be the successor of the current Zen-based "Summit Ridge" Ryzen CPUS in 2018. According to the slide, these desktop chips will leverage the same Summit Ridge architecture and will be compatible with the current AM4 socket, although a performance uplift is expected. This could be attributed to the transition to the 12nm manufacturing process.

AMD's Zen 2 processors are said to come in 2019. Based on the company's revised Zen 2 cores, the new dektop chips will be based on AMD's "Matisse" architecture. Again, the "Matisse" chips will use the AM4 socket, according to the slide.

The slide also shows release of the "Raven Ridge" line of APUs in 2018: up to 8 Zen threads, up to 11 Vega CUs, and versions compatible with both desktops (AM4) and notebooks (FP5).

The "Picasso" architecture for notebook/desktop APUs is shown to accompany the "Matisse" chips in 2019. These APUs should still leverage the company's upcoming Raven Ridge architecture, but they promise to offer performance and power gains.

Don't expect an official AMD word for all these very soon.
