Blu-ray Sales Hit Record in Japan in February
The Blu-ray Disc Association claims that the Blu-ray format has gained a 18.2% share in the total video market sales in Japan last month.
Citing data obtained by Gfk Japan, the association said that the Blu-ray format regained the 18.2% of the Japanese sales, after a period of decline in December and January. Of course, DVD remains the dominant optica storage medium for entertainment with a 80.5% percentage of the sales, while the "legacy" HD DVD format still reprsents a 2-3% of the total sales, BDA claims.
According to the same data provided by Gfk Japan, the Blu-ray format represented a mere 1.3% of the total sales back in September.
