Square Enix Holdings on Thursday released "Final Fantasy XIII," the latest installment in the company's hit role-playing video game series.
The latest Final Fantasy hit shelves on Thursday. It has been nearly four years since "Final Fantasy XII" was released in March 2006. The latest title features advanced high-definition graphics, making for characters that are even more lifelike.
Along with Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy is one of the world's most popular video game series, with its global shipments standing at 92 million units.
In Japan, the initial "Final Fantasy XIII" shipment is 1.8 million units.
The Japanese version runs on Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation 3, and retails for 9,240 yen
