Intel Unveils Pricing Of New Six-Core i7 Extreme CPUs
Intel has made available the pricing of the new i7-990X and i7-980X
six-core CPU (Extreme) and also lowered the prices of the i7-970 and
i7-960 models.
The six-core Core i7-990X Extreme Edition processor is the company's fastest desktop processor ever. It runs runs at a clock speed of 3.46GHz and has overclocking features that allow users to manually crank up the speed. The chip includes 12MB of cache and draws 130 watts of power. In addition to manual overclocking, the chip includes a feature called Turbo Boost, which can ratchet up the clock speed to as high as 3.73GHz, depending on the power drawn and the performance demanded by an application.
Acccording to Intel's February processor pricing list, effective February 13, both the new Intel i7-990X (12M cache, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.46 GHz 6.40 GT/sec Intel QPI 32nm) and the i7-980X (12M cache, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.33 GHz 6.40 GT/sec Intel QPI 32nm) are available for $999 (1Ku Units).
Intel also lowered the price of its i7-970 (12M cache, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.20 GHz 4.80 GT/sec Intel QPI 32nm) and the i7-960 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 3.20 GHz 4.80 GT/sec Intel QPI 45nm) by 34% and 48%, respectively. The i7-970 is now priced at $583 and the i7-960 at $294.
Intel also lowered the prices of two Xeon processors for servers. The W3670 (12M cache, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.20 GHz (130W) 4.80 GT/sec Intel QPI 32nm) is now priced at $583 - a 34% decrease over the previous pricing - and the W3565 (8M cache, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 3.20 GHz (130W) 4.80 GT/sec Intel QPI 45nm) is also available for $294 (48% decrease).
