Local/Network COM Functions with Advanced Virtual COM Port 2.3

Local/Network COM Functions with Advanced Virtual COM Port 2.3

PC components Aug 1,2005 0

You can now add virtual COM port support to your own software, get access to remote COM devices over local network or internet and more...

Users of Terminal Services under the windows server family of products, may already have used this port mapping functionality.

KernelPro Software today announces the release of Advanced Virtual COM Port, the newest version of the communication software with the unique combination of local and network virtual COM port functions. This application enables you to create two virtual COM ports locally or on two remote computers and connect them with a virtual null-modem cable. Created ports have the same look and functionality as physical ones. Also, you can use the program to share physical COM ports on the local network or internet through the TCP/IP connection.

"Advanced Virtual COM Port has many utilitarian uses and is beneficial for a wide spectrum of customers," says Yura Matyashev, head developer and CEO of KernelPro Software. "For example, it can help you accelerate the development of your software that uses COM ports to communicate with GPS receivers, portable computers or data acquisition devices. You need to create a virtual connection between a pair of local virtual COM ports on null modem principle. Then, it can be used to debug the software. You can even emulate serial devices and connect them to your software. And you can do all this even without having physical COM ports and cables!"

"Another popular use for our program is to provide access to a remote COM device," continues Mr. Matyashev. "You can share the functionality of one serial device over the local network or internet. And it can be anything, from bar code scanners and printers to medical equipment and science devices. For example, if the lab in Berlin has some advanced testing equipment that you need for you experiments in San Francisco, you can connect to the shared device port remotely through the Advanced Virtual COM Port interface and obtain necessary data in seconds as if it were connected to your computer. This involves no travel or equipment purchase expenses."

Advanced Virtual COM Port is designed with the ordinary user in mind. Thanks to the clear GUI interface and setup dialogs, the learning curve is minimal and you can start using the program even without reading the user manual. You can add, enable, disable or remove ports with only one click on the icon in the main window. And there is no need to reboot the operating system. Also, the main window displays information about the state of each port, so that you can quickly see whether it is opened or closed, connected or disconnected. Optimized for stable, high speed performance, the program demonstrates low communication latency on the network.

Advanced Virtual COM Port 2.3 Key Features:

  • Creates local pairs of virtual COM ports connected with a virtual null-modem cable;
  • Connects virtual COM ports on the network with a virtual null-modem cable;
  • Provides access to physical COM ports over the network;
  • Support for 64 bit platforms (Athlon 64);
  • Low latency on the network;
  • Hot Plug-n-Play support;
  • Emulation of flow control.

Pricing and Availability

Advanced Virtual COM Port 2.3 runs under Windows 2000/XP/2003/XP64 and costs $79.98 (USD). Discounts for volume buyers are also available.
