Qualcomm is adding the 11nm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform to its 600-series series of mobile processor solutions, a mid-range ship offering gaming, artificial intelligence and camera capabilities enabled by the Qualcomm AI Engine, Spectra ISP, Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU.
With support from a new 400-series Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Snapdragon 675 devices are designed to sport a 20 percent performance boost over the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 675 is enhanced for gamers, with many popular mobile gaming titles to have been optimized on the new chip. These optimizations include the ability to game with 90 percent fewer janks compared to the same games without the optimizations and 30 percent faster game launch.
The demanding games require support from all parts of the smartphone. The Kryo CPU is working side-by-side with the Adreno GPU and Hexagon DSP to help ensure the platform works efficiently and performs to the best of its ability. Beyond the marriage of GPU, CPU, and DSP, gaming advancements also come from the Qualcomm Aqstic Audio and X12 LTE modem, which improve sound quality and offer fast speeds, respectively. Qualcomm is also working with top gaming engines, including Unity, Unreal, Messiah, and NeoX, to bring gaming optimizations to a larger portfolio of mobile games.
The Snapdragon 675 unleashes the power of the Qualcomm Spectra ISP, allowing users to capture professional-grade photos and videos at up to 25 megapixels, and take snapshots at 48 megapixels. For the first time on a 600-series mobile platform, Qualcomm is debuting limitless slo-mo, which lets users record HD videos at 480 frames per second for extended amounts of time, a framerate available on only a few premium smartphones today.

The new mobile platform supports up to three concurrent cameras in the front and three concurrent cameras in the back, for a total of six cameras. This setup enables high-res depth sensing for portraits in the back, and 3D face unlock in the front. With these three cameras, users can now capture exciting shots in 5X telephoto, 2.5X wide-angle, and super wide-angle and save their favorite - or all three. The platform also boasts enhanced features, including quick autofocus, almost zero shutter lag, and enhanced portrait mode. Enhanced portrait mode combines multiple photos to create the ultimate shot, focusing on the subject in the foreground and blurring out the objects in the background.
Snapdragon 675 is engineered to support up to 50 percent overall improvements in AI applications compared to its predecessor. The multi-core AI Engine is designed to improve the mobile device's ability to acquire and process information. It is learning the user's voice, optimizes battery life, provides security, and helps capture the highest quality photos and videos. With the on-device AI Engine and working with top AI independent software vendors, Snapdragon 675 is able to manipulate images in real-time by adding artistic overlays. It can also identify locations and objects and uses additional layers of security for face unlock.
Through heterogeneous computing, the Qualcomm Hexagon DSP, Qualcomm Adreno GPU, and Qualcomm Kryo CPU are working cooperatively to run AI applications on-device faster and more efficiently compared to the previous generation.
Beyond the enhancements to bolster gaming, camera and AI, Snapdragon 675 includes:
- DSP security designed to provide protection when unlocking a device via face recognition
- Snapdragon X12 modem supports downlink speeds up to 600Mbps and 3x carrier aggregation
- Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ is capable of charging a smartphone battery from zero to 50% in 15 minutes
- Support for Qualcomm Aqstic and Qualcomm aptX audio technologies
Commercial devices with the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform are expected in early 2019.
