Kioxia, the Japanese flash memory giant spun out of Toshiba Memory in 2019, has a long pedigree in NAND storage. The Exceria Plus G3 microSD represents the company's latest push into the high-performance consumer memory card segment. The new series promise high speed and performance with the latest technologies. The series start from 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and up to 1TB of storage. We tested the 512GB variation, that occupies the sweet spot for photographers, videographers, and heavy smartphone users who need mass storage without stepping up to the 1TB tier.

On paper the headline figures are impressive: up to 210 MB/s sequential read and 150 MB/s sequential write when paired with a Kioxia-validated compatible card reader. The card carries V30, U3, and A2 classifications, making it broadly suitable for 4K video capture, burst photography, and running apps directly from the card on Android devices. Kioxia targets the card squarely at action cameras, drones, and smartphones — and claims a 52% reduction in transfer time compared to the predecessor Exceria Plus G2 when used with a specific reader.

One important capacity caveat from the outset: the 150 MB/s write specification and the 90 MB/s SDR104 write speed apply to the 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants only. The 64GB and 128GB models carry lower write ratings (90 MB/s specific reader / 65 MB/s SDR104). All figures in this review reflect the 512GB variant specifically.

For this review we tested the card with two separate card readers: a standard Genesys Logic USB 3.2 Gen 1 reader (representing what most users already own) and the UGREEN CM265 — the one reader officially designated by Kioxia for maximum advertised speed.

The retail package includes all the needed information, including performance figures. Pleasantly, an SD adapter (LADP1) is included in the box — a small but welcome touch that allows use in full-size SD slots without a separate purchase.

The Exceria Plus G3 measures 15.0 x 11.0 x 1.0 mm and weighs just 0.3 grams — standard microSD dimensions that ensure compatibility with every microSD slot worldwide. Kioxia's branding is tasteful and unobtrusive: white text on a dark background distinguishes the Plus G3 from the base Exceria G3 tier at a glance. There is nothing flashy here, which is appropriate for a storage medium that should be invisible in use.

Durability credentials are comprehensive and precisely specified. Waterproofing meets IPX7 standard — submersion up to 1 metre in static tap water at room temperature for 30 minutes. Shock resistance is rated to a 5-metre drop test, a significantly more demanding standard than the typical 1.5-metre figures cited by many competitors. X-ray proofing is certified to ISO7816-1 (up to 0.1 Gy), providing assurance for frequent flyers who pass their equipment through airport security. ESD immunity is rated to +/-15 kV air discharge per IEC61000-4-2, and an onboard electrical fuse provides overheating and ignition prevention.

The operating temperature range of -25 to 85 degrees C is notably wide, accommodating use in extreme cold (winter sports, alpine environments) as well as hot ambient conditions such as vehicle-mounted dash cameras. The card is RoHS compliant and backed by a 5-year limited warranty — one of the longer consumer memory card warranties in this segment.

Based on official Kioxia figures, the 512GB card (with approximately 460.8 GB usable space) offers the following estimated capacities:
