CD-R/RW Recording Tests
- CD-R recording
Nero CDSpeed writing simulation task illustrates the way the 24x Z-CLV is achieved, with CD-R media. The average writing speed for both drives is 22.30x.
- Ricoh MP5240A
- Aopen DRW4410
For our CD-R recording tests we used the latest version of Nero Burning Rom. Aopen and Ricoh drive support 24x maximum writing speed. Both drives also support 12x, 8x and 4x writing. Nero Burning Rom shows that the drives are capable of 16x writing also, but this is false. Burning at 16x with Nero will give the same writing times as when writing at 12x.
On the graph below you can see the best recording times (sec) we got for an 80min data compilation with Nero Burning Rom.
As it was expected, the drives gave identical performance. The recording time for 24x is adequate although the Z-CLV writing strategy comes behind the CAV in terms of writing times.
- CD-RW recording
Both Ricoh and AOpen drive support the 2x , 4x and 10x (HS-RW media only) rewriting speeds. For the recording tests we used 10x HS-RW media by Verbatim. A 650MB data compilation was burned with Nero Burning Rom. Below you can see the writing times at 10x:
- Packet Writing Tests
We used InCD and Ricoh HS-RW media for CD Packet Writing tests. We copied a 403 MB file (403.147 KB) from a Hard Disk (on the same PC as the writers) to the formatted RW media-using explorer (we dragged and dropped) we completed the test twice to eliminate possible time measurement faults and user errors:
Both drives were slow in the writing part, with the AOpen DRW4410 drive to take a lead with 4.9x average speed. The reading task gave both drives exactly the same times (10.4x).
