China's BOE Ready to Produce Flexible OLEDs
BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. (BOE) is ready to start production of flexible OLEDs in China, with its first client to be Huawei.
While South Korean OLED manufacturers put a hold onto their investments in China due to South Korean Government concerns about technologies being leaked, BOE is reportedly ready to start producing flexible OLEDs by the end of this month at its B7 plant, located in Chengdu. Having already secured parts and materials needed to manufacture flexible OLEDs, BOE will produce 5.99-inch flexible OLEDs starting from November. The Chinese company is estimated to produce about 10,000 flexible OLEDs per month - a rather small output due to low initial yield.
Huawei is the first smartphone manufacturer in China and the third in the world. The company is planning to use BOE flexible OLEDs in its smartphones starting from this month.
According to market research company IHS Markit, Samsung Display holds the 98.3% share in the flexible OLED market. LG Display has also invested $8.75 billion in its flexible OLED business.
