Chromecast with Google TV Announced

Chromecast with Google TV Announced

Consumer Electronics Oct 1,2020 0

Google's popular Chromecast is about the be released in a new revision, now with Google TV.  The new revision offers an interface with a 'watch list' for all streaming services, an option for live TV with unlimited DVR function and function to view say your smart doorbell on TV.

Google's new Chromecast with Google TV was announced on 30 September, with pre-orders opening immediately. Deliveries and in-store sales are expected from 15 October. The Chromecast with Google TV will cost £59.99 in the UK and $49.99 in the US. You'll also be able to buy a separate power supply with an Ethernet port. The price is to be confirmed, but we suspect it will be $15/£15.

  • Debuts Google TV
  • Supports Android TV apps
  • 4K HDR 60fps, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos
  • Google Assistant

The Chromecast with Google TV supports 4K HDR content at up to 60fps, including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The apps and services will reflect those supported by Android TV, so you'll find all the big streaming services and catch-up TV offered.

The new Chromecast with Google TV will change direction dramatically compared to previous versions. So far, Chromecast has only been a link between your TV and online content, relying on a separate device to control it - your phone or laptop for example. That will all still work - supporting casting like it did before - but with the addition of a remote and and Google TV, you no longer need to cast everything you want to watch. The new Google TV UI looks a lot like the Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV UI, with category tabs at the top and a tile-based UI for recently watched content and navigating the installed apps. The system supports 6,500 apps and live and on-demand TV from 85 networks, as well as key streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix and, of course, YouTube.

The new Chromecast will only be released in the United States for now, while the US manufacturer says its new device will be released in more countries later this year. The price of the remote dongle is $ 49. A price in euros is not yet known but expected to sit in the 60 to 70 EUR range.
