Germany To Get Secure Phones By BlackBerry
Following last year's reports that the NSA had targeted German Chancellor Angela Merkel's cell phone, the German government has reportedly been assured by Blackberry that its new smartphones are "spy-free". German media including NDR, WDR and daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung report that BlackBerry has agreed to provide Germany with access to software source codes, following the approval of BlackBerry's purchase of encryption firm Secusmart.
Secusmart provides smartphones meant to be safe from eavesdropping to German governmental agencies, defence ministries, and many other institutions.
The reports claim that BlackBerry has provided Germany with assurances that it isn't required to pass any confidential data to other governments.
Germany has not officially confirmed the deal yet.
