Intel To Bring Xeon Processors to Notebook PCs

Intel To Bring Xeon Processors to Notebook PCs

PC components Aug 8,2015 0

Intel's Xeon processors have powered servers for years, but their performance and security features are also coming to notebooks soon. The chip giant has announced that it will be delivering Xeon-based notebook processors for the first time this fall. The Xeon Processor E3-1500M v5 family will be based on the new Skylake 14nm architecture and will be shipping in high-powered laptops starting this fall. Designed from the ground up for mobile workstations, the Intel Xeon processor E3-1500M v5 product family brings computing horsepower to a notebook and supports features like error-correcting code memory for reliability while running critical workstation applications.

The new products will be available with certified drivers for key engineering applications and support the hardware-assisted security, manageability and productivity capabilities of Intel vPro technology. Mobile workstations featuring Intel Xeon processors as well as Thunderbolt 3 technology will be available this fall.

What the company hasn't mentioned are the specs for the E3-1500M v5 processors, though we know that Skylake should bring the usual faster performance (including integrated graphics) and improved battery life that each new iteration of Intel's Core processors delivers.

More information will be available during IDF next month.
