Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS G3 2TB SSD
4. Conclusion
KIOXIA apart from the top-of-the-line Exceria Pro NVME SSD, which utilizes the full bandwidth of the PCIe Gen 4 protocol, also offers "slower" NVME with much lower retail price for all market categories. The Exceria Plus G3 series comes to fulfill this market with acceptable performance of ~5.00GB/sec reading and around 3.90GB/sec writing performance.
The Exceria Plus G3 NVME SSD series relies upon the host memory to accelerate its performance and while that may introduce I/O delay since the date needs to move through local memory, whereas the onboard cache will be faster, we didn't see any major performance penalty either in maximum I/O response time or slow down at sequential writing, which is a great thing. The drive houses a very high 1200TBW endurance, which again is a great thing to have, and also includes five (5) years of warranty as well.
The retail price of the KIOXIA Exceria Plus G3 for the 2TB variant is around ~135 Euro (depending on region and local VAT) and it's priced on par with other higher-end Gen4 NVME drives that can boost up to 7.2GB/sec reading performance, so we feel that retail should be lower to keep up with the competition. In fact, we found at the same price range the Kioxia Exceria Pro 2TB (!), which is much faster but has lower overall TBW endurance (800TBW). The 5-year warranty and the 1200TBW should be enough for average users who wish to keep their NVME drives for a long time.
Overall, the Kioxia Exceria Plus G3 2TB is a good NVME drive, uses KIOXIA NAND chipsets and has solid reading/writing performance. However, we feel that the retail price should be somewhat lower than what we found at our local online market since competition is very high and users have so many different alternative options. If you can find the 2TB version for around 110-120 Euro, is a good price, else look at the Exceria Pro 2TB NVME SSD, which is a much faster and better overall solution for your needs.
