CD Recording Tests
- CD-R Recording
We used the latest version of Nero Burning Rom. LiteOn LDW-401S supports the 40x, 32x, 24x, 12x, 10x and 4x writing speeds.
The following screenshot comes from Nero CDSpeed writing simulation test with a blank 700MB CD-R disc. The drive starts writing at 18.47x and reaches the 41.69x at the end of the process. According to CDSpeed the average writing speed with a 80min disc is 31.55x.
We created a 80min data compilation in Nero Burning Rom and we burned the same media brand in all available writing speeds with LiteOn. The recording times are illustrated on the below graph.
The following picture comes from Nero after a successful burning at the maximum 40x speed:
- CD-RW Recording
We used Nero Burning Rom for writing CDs in the maximum RW speed. LiteOn DVD+RW LDW-401S supports the 24x P-CAV maximum rewritable speed. User is also able to rewrite at 16x with the same media, and 10x, 4x with HS-RW media.
According to NeroCDSpeed writing simulation test, the LiteOn drive starts writing at 18.56x. At the 12min mark the speed is increased and reaches the maximum 24x. Of course, writing at 24x premises usage of 24x US-RW media. For this test we used 24x media by Mitsubishi Chemicals.
Burning a 700MB data compilation with Nero Burning Rom at 24x took 3:44min. The quick erase process was also fast.
- Packet Writing Tests
On the first step of the Packet Writing test we made a quick format on a Mitsubishi 24x US-RW media with Nero. The formatted disc had 530 MB of free space. We used InCD to copy a 403 MB file from the hard disk to the formatted RW media through the Windows explorer (drag and drop) and then we reversed the process (reading).

LiteOn LDW-401S finished the quick format task in 41sec. The writing process with InCD finished after 5 minutes which is a slow result proportionally to the writing speed of the drive, while reading was faster.
