Nintendo to Release Smaller and More Affordable Switch Model: report
Nintendo is rumored to produce a new portable and more affordable version of the Nintendo Switch.
A report from Japanese news outlet Nikkei.com cites a combination of hardware partners and game developers who all suggest the next Switch model will be "miniaturized." The resulting system will reportedly emphasize "portability" and "playing outside," and it will "cut features" to bring the retail price down.
The system's current price is $299.99 MSRP.
The report also includes an incredibly brief mention of a possible new version of the paid Nintendo Switch Online service. Nikkei says that a "new online service" could launch "sometime in 2019" with a focus on "game enthusiasts."
Nintendo did respond to comment requests about the Nikkei report.
Earlier today, Nintendo released a great holiday 2018 financial report, although the company failed to reach the "20 million Switches sold in fiscal 2018" goal, and reported decline to Nintendo 3DS hardware and software sales.
