palm logoThis is a great device. Is it perfect? No. Is it the best Smart phone you can get? Nope - not even close. The 700p ran faster and had better access to the Power Vision features and was easier for text messaging and email.

The touch screen is a great feature and allows the user to edit Office files - unlike the “Q” and the “Dash” and other phones with the Smartphone OS. If you need a touch screen and you want the Windows Mobile experience - this is most likely the best option for you.

With a boost in memory and with documents to go in ROM - there is plenty of room for programs and files. Tests done by others confirm that the 700wx runs faster than the 700w.

The screen is a disappointment - 240 by 240 just doesn't cut it for me.

The fit and finish is top notch in the 700wx. It feels solid and well made. A screen protector and a case should be purchased to protect your investment, however. Using the new, wider keys was easy for me. The new button layout made sense and was a snap to get used to.

Call quality was very good, signal strength and battery life were terrific. Bluetooth 1.2 is great and the ability to use multiple Bluetooth devices was terrific. A2DP support for Bluetooth streaming stereo is as of yet not supported on the 700wx.

There is certainly room for improvement, but if you are looking for an easy to use Smartphone that can read and edit your Office documents, Sync all your contacts, utilize one handed operation for almost every task and be compatible with Bluetooth headsets and/or GPS units - then this a great phone for you.

Is it worth an upgrade if you already own a Treo 650? That's a tough one to answer. For me, the answer would be yes…..but I would actually opt for the 700p if I were to stay with the bulky Treo line.

My advice would be to go to your Sprint store and hold this device - play with it - see if it is comfortable. Then go home and wait for the Motorola Q and compare the two side by side.

Pros:

  • Great design
  • Easy to use
  • Fast EvDO connectivity
  • compatible with thousands of programs out of the box
  • Windows OS
  • DUN supported
  • Push Email capable out of the box, very cool

Cons:

  • No included case, screen protector or car charger.

You can order your Treo 700wx from www.palm.com or www.sprintpcs.com Prices seem to range from US$399.00 with a two year contract and incentives to upwards of US$650.00 with no contract.
