RWPPI held a press conference at CeBIT on March 11th

Optical Storage Mar 21,2003 0

Prior to the official opening of CeBIT 2003 (Mar. 12-19, Hanover-Germany), the RWPPI held a press conference on Mar. 11th. Roughly 100 journalists from well know publishing firms centered in Europe attended the conference with great success. The Press Conference started off with the speech from the director of the conference, and the RWPPI Representative for the European Liaison Office, Mr. Masaji Okubo. This was followed by the keynote speech from Mr. Koki Aizawa, who succeeded the prior Representative of RWPPI (Dr. Masao Sugimoto) last February who passed away at the end of last year. The main points discussed in the keynote speech were emphasized on the results of the Round Robin Tests, and the declaration of DVD-R/RW becoming the defacto standard of the various DVD recordable formats in the market, especially when looking from the product perspective that support the DVD-R/RW formats.

The next speaker was from the prominent research company in Europe, IDC to report about the most recent market trends of optical recordable discs for PCs, starting with CD-R/RW to the gradual transition centered on DVD-R/RW and recordable DVD.

Following the above, TDK's Mr. Jean-Paul Eekhout announced the future trends of recordable high speed discs for DVD-R/RW (8X: DVD-R), and the incredibly new strength of the "Scratch Proof" DVD recordable discs also used for DVD-R/RW. An actual demonstration using steel wool after the speech was used, which has gathered very high interest among them.

The last speech was made by Mr. Toshiro Tanikawa, the chairman of Mt. Fuji to report about the realization of the defect management system with the"Distributed Real Time Defect ManagementiDRT-DMj"System, as discussed in RWPPI's General Meeting in February.

At the close of all the guest speakers, there was a Question and Answer time session, where many questions were raised, making it a very fruitful and successful conference.
